Those "bad ends" from Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) books that left a deep lasting impression on your psyche.
What can you remember?

The text reads:
You take off running down the hall.
Your boots slap against the tiles and behind you, you hear claws.
Scrabbling. Getting closer.

You don’t dare look back. You just keep running.

The door’s ahead, freedom! You throw yourself toward it, fingers brushing the handle but something catches your ankle.

You hit the floor hard. Pain flashes white behind your eyes.
When you twist around, you see it, the rubber dog. Its psws clenched tight around your leg, its body glistening like oil.

You try to kick free, but the latex moves.
It’s spreading.

Up your calf, up your thigh, crawling fast and smooth like black mercury. The stuff sticks to your skin, sealing it.

You claw at it, but your
hands come away slick
and shining too. Every
heartbeat pumps more of it
through you. You can feel
your pulse slowing, the latex
thickening over your
chest, your arms,
your throat.

You open your mouth to scream,
but even the sound comes out
rubbery and hollow.

You've just merged into the collective and you're still getting used to it. Everyone shares the same cells, you're like amoebas. People can divide out of you at any moment if they have other business. You suddenly have a lot more voices in your head. Multitasking gets easier. The sex is good.
