The ongoing genocide in Gaza has become a litmus test of institutional integrity. When a university denies the reality of Israel’s brutality, it reveals complicity with the genocidal regime’s actions.

Meta has removed or restricted dozens of accounts belonging to abortion access providers, queer groups and reproductive health organisations in the past weeks in what Repro Uncensored call one of the “biggest waves of censorship” on its platforms in years.

The 8-month-old infant, Rahaf Abu Jazar, has tragically died in Khan Younis due to the severe cold.
As Gaza endures brutal winter conditions with no proper shelter, hospitals warn that more children are at risk of hypothermia, especially as families remain exposed to freezing temperatures.

I am a pediatric ICU physician. I am filled with dread knowing viruses and bacteria will provide the education to families who don't vaccinate their children. And the cost will be dear.

Thinking of that time when my dad, himself a doctor, was thrown by a horse on a trail ride. Punctured his spleen, internal bleeding, got him to an ER just in time. He lived another 20 years. With two hours delay, probably wouldn't have.

We rushed to *nearest* ER. Not comparison-shop for ER prices.
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

I think the message that something is *much* better than nothing for source control could make more difference overall than angels on the head of a pin about N95s. I also think for wearer protection, the resp/ mask divide is wider than for source control in real conditions of use.

For wearer protection (PPE) vs source control, Ueki et al's measured these viral titer reductions:

PPE: 47% surgical; 57% loose N95; 79% fitted N95
Source control: 73% surgical; 95% loose N95; N.D. w/ fitted N95

Lab test w mannequins; maybe no human field study w/ same joint comparison?

Even if other people still catch it, it might not be as bad. A couple of months ago one housemate got sick but masked and isolated. He was flattened but everyone else got a much less severe case of whatever it was (not COVID according to the tests).

This is a very important point. Too much thinking about infectious disease in binary terms (contagious or completely safe; totally immune or not at all; ...). We know that the amount of virus inhaled also matters.

Does it HAVE to be a high-grade respirator mask? NO. It's true that respirators are much better than standard surgical masks for WEARER PROTECTION. But in this case, you already have flu so the masking is for SOURCE CONTROL. In this case, a surgical (even a cloth) mask is a LOT better than nothing.

Similarly for indoor public spaces, especially if you plan to be in a very small, underventilated space for a long time (e.g. train trip). If unmasked, you'll continue to exhale viral particles which will remain suspended in the air and viable for some time. Even after you've got off the train. 2/

Should you wear a mask if you've got symptomatic flu? YES. If you wear it at home *from the onset of your symptoms*, your family members are much less likely to catch flu from you (but you must avoid unmasked co-sleeping and eating around same table - have your meals alone). 1/

Most members of the board that manages transit in the Twin Cities—the Met Council—rarely actually use transit, a story that’s all too familiar around the nation.

8 of 17 members never rode over the last year. 2 others took just 1 trip each.

Enough to power 23 million homes!

U.K decarbonisation policy is a recipe for energy security.
