This is the funniest headline I seen in a long time. And bravo to whoever underlined the desperation with the juxtaposed link.

making a list of american institutions that are meeting this moment, and so far I've got burning man and paleontology down here... guess we're rebuilding society around the study of dinosaur bones and doing drugs in the desert

How does this affect your view of the 'chicken coup' phrase?
February 9, 2026 at 4:06 PM
Wait Stephen do you pronounce coop the same way you pronounce coup??

Why not the greens

That said: it's so embarrassing that seemingly none of his own MSPs or even any backbench MPs have publicly backed Sarwar on this?? Jesus. Especially when briefing that Eluned Morgan would back him and multiple ministers would quit.

Douglas Alexander is both a cabinet member and *co-chair of the Scottish Labour election campaign*.

How do you run a campaign when your leader and the co-chair of your campaign disagree on whether the Labour PM should resign? How is that sustainable?

Thank you, king

HOW?
HOW ARE YOU NOT READY
Fucking amateurs everywhere
Listening to Matt Chorley's show and Patrick Maguire on there hit it right - none of the contenders are ready and organised. All a bit dramatic today but I reckon Starmer stays for now.

But WHY though? Christ they're all such a bunch of cowards

arguably the biggest news of the week that Lisa Nandy is currently doing something related to her brief
Only three cabinet ministers have not Tweeted or put out a message of support for Starmer:

Wes Streeting
Shabana Mahmood
Lisa Nandy (who is at the Winter Olympics)

This could of course change, but it's where we're at just before 3:30pm

Starmer defining himself against corbyn and boris and becoming both corbyn and boris....absolute cinema. Wish it didn't affect me

Sarwar's done little to help himself, and I don't think Starmer goes before May's elections. But I do think this has, on balance, made it more likely he'll go after the May election. Sarwar has also MAYBE done something to preempt attempts to remove himself after May.

Sounds as though Morgan has backed away from this - althouhg Times reporting "They’re on the same page when it comes to Keir’s future"

Remains to be seen if those tipped for ministerial resignations also decide to hold off

David Lammy has posted in support of the PM in last 20 mins
Am told Eluned Morgan, First Minister of Wales, is going to follow Anas Sarwar in calling for the PM to stand down;

Also that there will be "Scottish MP ministerial resignations" afterwards

Ministers saying it's the end game...

I'm also petty and stupid and talk out of my arse.

I've always found that a really compelling argument to make me consider changing my views. Insult me. That'll really help.

Nothing that makes me go "oh hang on you might have a point" just straight up "you're thick".

What a lovely tolerant left.

I pissed off a bunch of over-60s on Threads saying Starmer may have received a huge mandate 18 months ago but hasn't really done much to earn it since then.

Apparently KS is the hardest working prime minister since the war, and he handles Trump.

EXCLUSIVE: Keir Starmer has privately canvassed senior Labour figures to ask if he can stay on as Prime Minister by making a public show of contrition like adopting Liz Truss’s day collar.

Yeah, I think this is the hardest variable, he just does not IMO have the same dog in him as most embattled prime ministers do.
February 9, 2026 at 3:29 PM
Feel like the 'plan' is: have a leadership election?

How much of a galaxy brain take do you need
Another Scottish MP calls it "the height of idiocy to do this without a semblance of a plan."

But like Burnham before him, many people will agree with Sarwar's diagnosis even if they don't agree with his tactics.
