I think one reason my reaction may be different is that I’m old. I’m 46 years old. I had my heart broken when Straw went to LA when I was 11, but I’ve dealt with this over 36 years. I’m less sensitive to it now. Players move on. I don’t.

I’m not sure how Mets fans saw what happened with the coaching staff in October and thought that Stearns was just going to run it back with this core. That was the sign that big changes were coming. And coming off of a collapse, I’d argue that big changes were needed!

I loved Pete. I’ll be sad to see him in orange and black and not orange and blue. But it was time for them to shake up the roster. They’ve had this core in place for five years and made the playoffs twice. It was time for both sides to move on.

I like Díaz a lot and am sad to see him go. That said, he wasn’t worth 3 years and $60m three years ago, so it stands to reason that he’s probably not worth 3 years and $69m now. Maybe I’m wrong about that.

Jeff Kent had a good career but he was like the 5th or 6th best candidate on this ballot. It’s also strange because I don’t think any of his peers actually liked him?

One thing I love about New Jersey is that we have regional chains or Italian food markets that are all really good. The shore has Livoti’s, the south has Rastelli’s. Gotta get one in my beloved central Jersey, which is a thing that exists.
