No society is immune from embracing evil on a mass scale. We read about the atrocities of the past, and we ask ourselves, "how could so many act with such cruelty?" But that cruelty is always a mirror reflection away. Evil that's popular is still evil. Resistance means rejecting that popularity.

Big companies are laying off employees by the thousands as the holidays ramp up. It's almost as if late capitalism has finally admitted that our economy is dictated by shareholders, not actual consumers.

The thing about using AI is that once you learn about how not great it is (for the environment, for artists, for your brain, etc.), you can just stop using it. No shame. Just be done with it.

I could happily go the rest of life without hearing yet another tech stooge proclaim that AI "opens up new avenues for creativity." Because nothing screams "creativity" like guys on the internet using the same canned statement over, and over, and over.

I genuinely love this dark time of year, but if I'm honest, it's still really jarring to have no daylight when I wrap up work. But that means the problem is factory scheduled capitalism and artificial "time changes," rather than the natural turn of seasons.

Attention: there's a label on Bandcamp that releases Sasquatch-themed ambient music. It may be the single most niche genre ever, and I'm here for it!

No, I don't want to ask your crappy AI extension to help me "create." I actually quite value human creativity, as I've been practicing it all my life. Please take this AI crap I didn't ask for and launch it into the sun.

The thing I love most about Pearl Jam is that, despite being among the most commercially viable major-label bands of the 90s, they pretty much always made the music they wanted to make. Listeners who only dig commercial radio anthems have missed so much of their best work over the decades.
31 years later. Happy anniversary, Vitalogy!

Thank you to Chris B., Zac P., and Timothy S. for sharing your ephemera!

A note for artists who put their music on Bandcamp: if you take that music off the platform after we as listeners bought it, that's not cool at all.

The world needs more quiet. We've created a cacophonous nightmare of a society that's surely leaving our nervous systems frazzled in a way they were never meant to be.

Well, it's Friday. I've got a loooong day ahead of me and I had to wake up at 5am. There will be coffee. ☕

Have you ever heard a beaver slap? That's the loud sound beavers make when their flat tails slap the water as they dive beneath the surface. Growing up near a small river behind our house, I would hear those slaps while walking in the woods along the water. Beavers are busy creatures indeed.

I have a strong urge to retreat for a few days into the quiet winter night in order to play host to a cavalcade of forest sprites and snow gnomes while a crackling fire casts their diminutive shadows against an ancient wall of mighty evergreens. 🌲🌨️⛄
