Meliae is also the assumed male hero that's been protecting the country recently, which she must reveal at the crowning ceremony to prove she's the Princess.

The Valkyrie is an androgynous hero because it's half Meliae, and half the male hero spirit of the past, Valkyrie.

Being queer in Hetar is fine if it's not public but Meliae is a princess and Rai is a baron. Sorta like the Water Tribe in Avatar, they don't strictly forbid it but they prefer it kept quiet, behind closed doors.
