"Will the history books track our breathing, our grieving, our sorrow?
Or like always, will history record only a litany of wins and success,
With no record of the dead, except in the earth that buried them and the broken hearts that loved them?
Where is the place of love in our record of history?"
I have lost some close family recently. All the losses have been sudden. The grief that has followed this has been compounded by the levels of global violence, uncertainty, and increasing fascism. For them and for us, I hope this verse helps… A grief poem.

To Those Who Have Gone Ahead: Grieving while breathing

Loved this 🧵 from the NY Transit Museum, in honor of Rosa Parks' anniversary today, about the desegregation of the NYC transit system. In 1854! By a teacher!

Side note: When my son was little, NY Transit Museum was one of our favorite spots. It's a gem of a local museum for kids and adults alike.
How was #NYC's transit system desegregated? In 1854, Elizabeth Jennings Graham, a 24-year-old Black school teacher, stood her ground on a NYC streetcar. Jennings was ordered to get off the car and wait for a car that served African American passengers.

He was right lmao. They misunderstood him but he was absolutely right.
They were mad because Karlous was right.

Homelessness shouldn't be our problem; it should be the government's and they could fix it but they choose not to.

the fact that history of aids is either glossed over or completely ignored in teaching american history should bother all. it is one of best examples of the fear mongering of illness and medicine & how community action saved millions of lives.

if haven’t learned about it. go read about it now.
This country does not do well with collective mourning or acknowledging death by contagious illness. You probably never heard of the pandemic of 1918, if you're under 35 you probably never seen the AIDS quilt and the fact that we've never had a national acknowledgment of the people who died of COVID

“The [microbes] will do the education” is said in frustration and exasperation and boy do I get it.
As many have said, the issue is how medicine functions and neither the lack of the trust from the public nor the frustration on the medicine/science end is going away until we adjust the root cause.

I’ve witnessed white people forgive other white people for being racist and now they're giving rave reviews of dissertations written by people who have no fucking idea what they're talking about.

I used to want better for them. Now I understand I need a meteor or EMP at minimum

Listening to Keith Lee on KevonStage’s pod.

He says he can’t even eat out normally because he walks in a place & folk start crying thinking their life is about to change.

Meanwhile, he’s just…hungry.

What I want to know is who said “never more” to the raven in the first place, and why. 🧐
Edgar Allen Poe tried to tell us but people said he was smokin' opium and made it up.
Y’all! Ravens can talk!! And they know how context works. Animals are so damn smart!

6 years today the first COVID case was identified in a man in Wuhan marking the beginning of a global pandemic that changed the world. We are way less prepared today to face another pandemic than we were back then. This fact makes me sad.

The purpose of US liberal education is to strip figures like Parks of all of their radical edges and make them caricatures. Parks is portrayed as a frail, tired woman who just wanted to sit down. Just like Harriet Tubman is portrayed as simply a helpful caretaker.
6) Rosa Parks wasn't meek. A lifelong believer in self defense, her politics were expansive. She loved Martin & Malcolm & Stokely, Ella Baker & Queen Mother Moore, fought for reparations, Black history in every curriculum, prisoner defense, welfare rights—"any move to show we are dissatisfied."
