I agree with this. I also think that just like with organizing there's a difference between a communications strategy and a tactical/on-the-ground strategy.
Sometimes they reinforce one another but occasionally the former is used to publicly mislead/disorient to improve the efficacy of the latter.

As someone who traveled to Minneapolis a little over a year after George Floyd was murdered and KNOWS how unsafe it was to be publicly Black downtown after 6pm, it is wild to see.
Y'all are also out here acting like Minnesota has been some haven of antiracism since the days of the Civil War and y'all really ain't gotta do all that glazing either

The "ICE is using military tactics suited for a warzone, not for American streets" rhetoric kinda misses the point that warzones are not naturally occuring. The US military creates war zones from residential neighborhoods and the tactics are not more justifiable just because it's overseas

Yeah not to mention there is a clear pipeline from military to border militias, who absolutely without any doubt have a presence in DHS and border patrol. I think the far more realistic thing is that they stay out of agencies so they can act w impunity and now ICE has told them they can do that.
I'm not sure where this idea comes from that ICE and Border Patrol couldn't hack it in the "real" military. The data does not support this; in fact both of these agencies recruit heavily from the military. A very large number of Border Patrol agents and Deportation Officers are former infantry.

There's a large percentage of ICE and Border Patrol receuits with prior military or law enforcement experience who already fit the "us vs. them" culture of these agencies.
They see immigrants, darker-skinned people, leftists, and queers as invaders — not fully human and deserving of abuse.

I wish more people understood this. It's for people who want power over others but don't wanna put in the work to do it competently or ethically.
The more accurate observation for ICE and Border Patrol is not that they're military wannabes who couldn't hack it in the service, it's that they're military short-timers.
Usually guys with low ambition and drive who didn't advance, and with an MOS that doesn't prepare them well for civilian jobs.
