they pretend to be data-driven but in the end they strike me as neo-schumers: they have in their heads a model of the Median American as kind of selfish and bigoted and, coincidentally, obsessed with exactly their own culture-war bugbears, and believe Trump remains an avatar of these Volk

New AP poll has Trump's approval on immigration down to an abysmal 38% as he rants psychotically about "shithole countries," smears Somalis, threatens large-scale denaturalization and remigration, and openly pines for more white immigrants and fewer nonwhite ones

Consider the story of Eilmer of Malesbury, an English monk who lived between 980 and 1066, and who chucked himself off a tower with some canvas wings in his youth.

One key theme in history: bored monks get up to some weird stuff.

A priest, a firefighter and a professor walk into a bar. They spot a queue near the bar & get in line. They look in shock as a barkeep hits a cop, a lawyer and so on.

"Excuse me, isn't this the line for a drink?" asks the priest.

A horse in front of them replies, "Neigh, you're in the punch line."

NARRATOR: it was, in fact, absolutely her job.

SCOTUS has been clear on this: police agencies have basically unfettered discretion to choose how and when and which laws to enforce.

All these “take responsibility” tough-on-crime types who cannot take responsibility themselves.
MAGAZINER: Will you thank Mr Brown for his service to our country?

NOEM: Thank you Mr Brown

M: Now what explanation can there be for locking up his wife for months when she has committed no crime other than writing a couple bad checks for $80

NOEM: It's not my job to pick which laws get enforced

Indiana’s Senate has voted AGAINST the GOP gerrymander that’d have locked in a 9-0 map.

This keeps the 7-2 map in place, saving two Democratic seats heading into 2026.

The vote failed big, 19/31.

The MAJORITY of the GOP senators opposed it!

There are two million federal civilian employees. $3,000 per month for each is six billion dollars. From whom are you going to raise a mutual aid fund of that size?

(This is another example where mutual aid does not scale and is not actually a solution to a problem. State capacity matters.)
One wonders how hard it would have been for Dems to fundraise for a mutual aid fund for federal workers. Not hard at all!

Green's resolution is simply for publicly threatening to literally execute members of Congress. Either you think that merits impeachment or not but there's no fact-intensive investigation and gathering documents and depositions to be done about it first. There's no cover-up to expose. He said it!

🚨Judge Xinis finds that, incredibly, Mr. Abrego Garcia was never ordered deported in 2019. She notes that every since this saga began all the way back in March, the government has NEVER been able to produce any evidence that the immigration judge actually issued a removal order.

NOEM: We haven't deported veterans

I read a book on making money in ancient Athens recently (by Michael Leese, it's great), and the Greeks absolutely believed that the endless pursuit of wealth was a serious moral defect and personality issue no different than being a drunk or sexual deviant.
If you make a billion dollars — or $500 million or even $100 million dollars — and you keep trying to make more, then there is something seriously wrong with you. It's a mental illness akin to hoarding or drug addiction.
