#whalewednesday The spectacular early toothed whale Xenorophus sloanii from the Oligocene (~28 mya) of South Carolina! This is a critical transitional fossil, known from about a dozen skulls and partial skeletons. Read more about Xenorophus here on my blog: coastalpaleo.blogspot.com/2024/03/the-...
A black and white skeletal reconstruction of Xenorophus sloanii, and a pair of photos of the skull and neck vertebrae of the best known specimen in top and side view.

Preview of my latest #paleoart piece: a baby bison flees the deadliest predator of Ice Age Europe. Harrowing, harrowing stuff.

It's quite a common scam tactic sadly. Although the part about edits not being accepted might hold true (editing your own page can be seen as a conflict of interest)

Considering he's a redhead, have you considered Ed?

Since algorithms across various social media platforms are making it harder to see what you enjoy, here's a thread of #paleoart I think is underrated or a tad overlooked.
Kicking things off with Sam Milkovits' azhdarchid portrait
Black and white digital painting of azhdarchid pterosaur head in profile. The tip of the beak has flaking keratin

If everything goes according to plan I will be there, can't wait!

Ugh, the detail on the foliage alone!! It looks gorgeous

If I remember correctly, it's to do with temperature! The ears are thin and have lots of blood vessels, and can be used to cool the blood

#artadventcalendar day 5&6 and #fossilfriday: watercolor paintings of the toothed baleen whale Coronodon havensteini (Oligocene, South Carolina) and a more ancestral archaeocete whale Zygorhiza kochii (Eocene, Mississippi). Each is 12x8". #paleontology🐡 #whaleontology #art #sciart #watercolor
Watercolor painting of a toothed whale skull in lateral view; the skull is light yellowish tan, has a long, slightly flattened snout, with single cusped teeth at the front of the mouth, and denticulate cheek teeth towards the back of the mouth; the enamel is dark brown. A few fractures exposing dark internal bone criss-cross the skull and lower jaw, which is somewhat open.
