the move of podcasting into video is because youtube is where the big money is, now. but to succeed there, you need to make a *certain type* of podcast, which is like voluntarily choosing to make an 8.30pm bbc one sitcom off your own back in the hope that the 8.30pm bbc audience likes it

In today's @guardian, I had a little grumble about the audio-visual podcasts that are forgetting – or have ceased to care – about the experience of listeners. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

From Joe Marler’s visual-only stunts to the incomprehensible shuffling sounds Steven Bartlett recently subjected headphone users to, dodgy audio experiences are on the rise

will also add - yes, this is my personal crusade - that turning podcasts into videos implicitly asks women to once again make more effort than men, as the bar for "camera-ready" for one gender is obviously higher than for the other

Sitting in for a coffee instead of getting take out ‘because it’s Christmas’ 😂

Have you done anything quietly extravagant yet ‘because it’s Christmas’?

I'm currently redesigning the website for 2026, and it means considering work to include. I created this audio series a few years ago as a response to people on what was then Twitter moaning about poetry. 1/3

Quick reminder of the rules for anyone playing Anschützageddon: the objective is to go the whole of Christmas without hearing Ernst Anschütz's 'O Tannenbaum'. Remember, remixes and covers DON'T count. Good luck!

Was very nice to listen to this documentary… very relatable, particularly, the realisation that you’re nodding and smiling during conversation, when you shouldn’t be nodding and smiling… and putting off getting hearing aids for so long…
A surprisingly lovely documentary in which Liverpool poet Paul Farley comes to terms with his hearing loss and the prospect of hearing aids. Also great to hear such Scouse phrases as “made up” and “give it a swerve” in a BBC doc. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
