No, right now democrats are demanding the current spending levels from the Biden budget be maintained but the Republicans have reduced them. The money going to healthcare premium subsidies is set to be significantly reduced absent other legislative action.

Pretty sure the shutdown RIF will eventually be found in violation of the law. Just because OPM released "new" guidance on Oct 1, 2025 saying it is legal doesn't make it legal.

I believe the phraseology is along the lines of, "Ms. Bondi, the facts presented do not support the opinion you have expressed. Would you like to reconsider your response?"

WAPO ceased to have any shred of relevance when they decided against endorsing any presidential candidate. Not that they had much before then.

"We passed a bill, we are taking our toys and going home until the other chamber passes it" has NEVER been the way either chamber of Congress has operated, until now.

The Speaker Johnson and the House could be working on the fully year appropriarion bills but instead are throwing a temper tantrum.

"Leader" Thune tries to characterize the failed CR as having "united support" and then goes on to explain how it is supported by republicans in the house, the senate, and the president. That's not united support, that's partisan support.

"There is nothing to negotiate" is the slogan of every authoritarian and fascist regime.

Where are the warrants indicating probable cause and signed by a judge?

This is straight up fascist gang crap. They are probably really lucky some of the legal residents didn't have firearms ready to defend themselves.

It takes two (or more) sides to have an impasse just as it takes two (or more) sides to have a compromise.

When only one side gets exactly what they want and the other side gets nothing - well, that's authoritarianism.

A different take is the republicans can end the shutdown immediately by passing a CR that includes the priorities of the democrats and return to negotiating in good faith instead of their current "my or the highway" stance.

The republican leadership keeps saying the democrats can end the shutdown immediately, they simply have to pass the unacceptable CR. The republicans also refuse to negotiate and didn't include the democrats in drafting the CR.

Stephen King's "The Running Man" was set in fictional 2019. Sadly, it's beginning to look like he was prescient, but a few years off.

The government shutdown is not simply about healthcare premium subsidies. That was the non-negotiable requirement for the continuing resolution.

The shutdown is really about beginning to reclaim the American dream so beautifully stated on the Statue of Liberty.
