Several people have died in ICE custody and because of ICE detention. Renee Goode’s murder is a crime everyone could plainly see but make no mistake, there are many families who will never see their father, mother, sibling, or parent again because of ICE.

I was working for WB Avalanche on January 6th five years ago. I was home because of the pandemic, doing tasks while I played the certification of the vote live as background noise. And suddenly it wasn’t background noise anymore. Slack slowly went dead and I could only watch it happen in real time.

The music is haunting, some of the shots are so exquisite they remind you of Rembrandt or Caravaggio, but it’s Seyfried’s performance as Ann Lee that I’ll be thinking about for a long long time.

See it in the 70mm if possible because gee whiz.

“I have no real patience for art that doesn’t believe in itself.”

Fantastic writing the whole way down.
I wrote about seeing Oedipus on Broadway and why the most monstrous thing that he does isn’t the killing his dad or marrying his mother thing but his demand to know the truth, regardless of the cost.

Rain of Gold by Victor Villaseñor, a non-fiction multi-generational saga with threads of magical realism woven throughout. It covers the early 20th century, Mexico, California, war, immigration, lineage, and destiny. It was published in 1991 yet remains a vital story, esp in our current moment.
If I could read only one novel next year, what would you suggest?

This experience has reinforced to me that at times hostility aimed at the humanities comes from people needing to believe investing in them is a waste of time, energy, and effort. They need to affirm that their sacrifices for today’s notions of practicality are right.
Hey, if you’re in the game industry and have a literature degree, would you please comment?

We got a family friend over here who insists my having a career in games while holding a literature degree is a one-off aberration and per usual, I’m not letting it go.

at a certain level of any creative or intellectual collaborative job the main task is sin-eater: to fix what you can and get blamed for what you can’t, secretly knowing how much worse it would have been if you hadn’t done what you did.

I’ve only played a couple of Santa Ragione’s games but these former IGF narrative winners are doing work I deeply appreciate. I’ll be playing HORSES, and I hope you will too.
Our upcoming game HORSES was preemptively banned from Steam, with no path to appeal. The game will still launch next week on December 2nd and will be available on EGS, GOG, Humble, and Itch for $4.99. Here is a detailed FAQ covering what happened: horses.wtf/BannedFromSt...

We don't know. What we do know is the wiring diagram works. We built it, virtually, in @godotengine.org. We fed it scans of the books we found.

And the books are very, very strange. The "game" that resulted is also strange.

We're hoping people can make sense of it for us.

Hey so, today is my last day at Crystal Dynamics apparently. I joined the company in 2018 to work on Marvel's Avengers and it's been the longest (and best) job I've ever had. It now means I'm looking for work, so if you know of any senior writer/narrative designer positions please send them my way.
