"kind, jittery..." - NYT
Drone light shows are sorta meh.

Watched one last night that was followed by fireworks. The fireworks were viscerally exciting.

The drone stuff was cliche, slow and silent.

The difference was so evident seeing them back-to-back.

Looking at the Street View of an apartment building in Naples, Italy that my daughter is considering... hard to imagine a more stereotypical scene: older fella with a cane chilling on the corner, laundry hanging, scooters.

This is actually a good example of why the customer model is wrong.

I wouldn't have chosen poetry writing, but UNC made me take a class. And it absolutely made me become a much better writer, with an eye to concision and an ear now trained to the rhythm of words. I'm a better historian as a result.
If you are providing me with an education that is low utility in the world then it’s a disservice. My composition class spent four weeks on poetry. I’m sorry, but that only would’ve been useful if I wanted to be a poet. I don’t need to know iambic pentameter in order to be a victim advocate.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

It's kinda funny to be in Idaho and see all these cute little government-approved "Don't Tread on Me" license plates driving around.

It's odd to read these mainstream news stories about war with Venezuela — they don't even attempt to explain the logic, reasoning, or in any way explore the "why" of such actions.

Just "he said" this/that.

I guess this this just life in the new reality-TV universe we inhabit.

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

One of the strangest aspects of aging that they don't warn you about is watching as history gets rewritten right in front of your face and people 20 years younger than you confidently tell you about something you lived through and get it completely wrong.

I'm in Italy at the moment, and I thought this local angle on Zohran Mamdani in the newspaper was interesting... "the problem" they are referring to are the things his opponents don't like about him.

Perhaps the best thing I've ever read on this app...
Big day at U.S. District Court in D.C. where Sean Dunn, the D.C. Sandwich Guy, is on trial for misdemeanor assault of a federal officer.

Border Patrol agent Gregory Lairmore is on the stand narrating surveillance video of the sammie toss.

'Now he’s struck me with the sandwich,' Lairmore says.

Why did Indiana University attack and cut its own student newspaper?

Well, in a twist of irony any English professor would call clichéd, it turns out IU did it because they were angry about the students' reporting on a FIRE report naming IU as the worst public university for free speech in the US.
