On noticing that the ground has slid away

My 2nd post at In Between Days is about how you can paper over cracks, but you can't paper over an abyss

We're over the cliff

We're in freefall

We have to live in this reality together

Because that's the only way to get from the no longer to the not yet
Yesterday I got so old...
On noticing that the ground has slid away It's like it was yesterday. 16 year old me bopping along to In Between Days at the back of the school bus, the jangly joy of the music jarring perfectly aga...

a friend of mine in antifa told me that antifa's headquarters is SHEIN and if the company fell the whole network would fall

I always have and likely always will, but that is far far from enough

Absolutely. From ideas to practices and infrastructures, actually cultivating the world we need.

IMHO, we need to experiment and grow it from the grassroots up, wherever we are - systems of collective trust and accountability and decision-making and mutual aid.

I’ve written about it in my book, Living Democracy. And will be writing more here: in-between-days.ghost.io/opener/

An utterly shameful list of murderous, ecocidal, omnicidal acts by a government that loves to claim it cares

The strategy of trying to get Labor and the bureaucracy to act is an abject failure. Government is a failed institution, most clearly when it comes to climate.

Time to build the next system
Labor’s slate for fossil fuel approvals
The Albanese government has already approved 31 fossil fuel projects, and more than that are waiting, even as renewables overtake coal as the top source of electricity.

I think it’s time to get this out into the world…

Here’s my new blogletter. I’ll be writing here about life and changemaking in this discombobulating space between the no longer and the not yet.

Do please have a read of this first post, sign up, and spread the word!

I’m lucky that, in my family, though we’ve had disputes in the past, we now find ourselves inches apart, rather than chasms.

But I grieve deeply friendships lost. And a whole world lost. And the countless lives lost to a political ideology that claimed the mantle of religion and social identity.

Oh Sarah 😢

What a beautiful encapsulation of so much I feel.

“The danger was never difference; the danger was the oppression that demanded silence, that forbade questions, until even love could no longer be spoken.”
When you first heard me speak against this genocide, you heard my words as betrayal. But they were meant as love | Sarah Schwartz
Not speaking would go against everything I was taught to honour: the righteous among the nations – those who refused to be bystanders to injustice

So yeah, I’m a bit obsessed with Ali Smith, sure, but this book is truly something else. It’s both devastating and uplifting. Also laugh-out-loud funny and mind-expandingly thoughtful. Think I’ll have to read this one again in a little while.

My fellow Jews: protect your heart and don’t read the replies to this post.

My fellow allies: read all of these replies, internalize the antisemitism problem on the left, and start gathering your thoughts about how you will fight this vile rhetoric.

I am sickened by today’s attack in Manchester. Antisemitism is on the rise around the world, and we must do all we can to stomp it out. I am grateful to first responders and congregants who showed incredible bravery, and I am praying for those who were killed.

A lovely story about Dr Jane Goodall's career & legacy, from Rachel Fieldhouse & Mohana Basu, in @nature.com www.nature.com/articles/d41.... Includes some comments from me about how researchers _can also_ be advocates and science communicators, and still be taken seriously (I hope)!

It is nauseatingly unacceptable that Jewish people should be criticised (let alone being attacked) because they are Jewish. Equally, expecting Jewish people to endorse Israel's war crimes because they are Jewish, is a gift to antisemites of all types www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

"So this is a big, big day, a beautiful day," Mr Trump said. "Potentially one of the great days ever in civilisation."

Where do you even start with that?

Ha! To be honest, mostly just decent local (Australian) cheddar. But also some excellent local ash Brie, often. And occasionally splashing on an imported specialty like truffle manchego 😊
