“Our expectations of sport culture and masculinity in Canada have largely been defined by Canada’s other national pride, hockey. Its narratives frequently valourize toughness, stoicism and physical dominance, reinforcing a narrow vision of what it means to “be a man” in sport.”

Rather than uphold a dominant hypermasculine image of men in sport, this years’ World Series might have opened our eyes to a counter-narrative in sport.

Presumably, growing long and luscious sideburns. #BlueJays
Toronto Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly has announced he will be leaving the team to pursue other opportunities in baseball this season.

Exactly this. I’ve seen “radical” critics of the federal NDP in Canada argue that Zohran is on the “left-wing” of the NDP. Well, no. He’s well within the orbit.

Your most detested NDP leader is or was in favour of universal programs deeper than any Zohran campaigned on.

Context matters.

I better see no less than six stories this week in the NYT about Mamdani voters talking about their economic anxiety in Brooklyn diners and what the GOP can do to win them back.

Liverpool win a brilliant game of football. Everything you can ask for from European competition.

Hopefully my only commentary on the budget drama on Parliament Hill:

I see a number of posts by Canadian Liberals (or Liberal voters) saying a version of "I didn't vote for this."

Not to be harsh, but: Yes, you did. Carney is what he has always been.

But late is better than never.

I know you want him to take that on, but Mo was kicking into a wall of bodies there with options nearby

LIke, do Real practice diving?

I tend to think booing former players is small-club mentality. But to each their own.

*insert "elbows up" joke here
Out of budget lockup. I recently wrote: "Ottawa imposes a 10 percent luxury tax on yachts... yet a family buying a semi in Scarborough pays the equivalent of 15 percent in [DCs] and land transfer taxes."

Today the gov't addressed this by eliminating the luxury tax on yachts.

As a Canadian I try to defend soccer/football from charges of diving being second nature to the sport. Real Madrid makes that hard.

Good body movement by Dom there, shielding the ball and drawing the foul in a good place.

Has to cross now. No caucus can keep you after you've said this.
🚨Scoop: Nova Scotia MP Chris d'Entremont says he is considering crossing the floor to join the Liberal Party.

He tells me he'll make a decision “in the next few days” after reviewing the federal budget. Other Conservatives are also being courted.

The stunning twist moves Mark Carney one step closer to a secure hold on the prime minister’s office until 2029.

I think maybe I have a higher tolerance for some on handball not being called after Odegaard played basketball in the penalty area and got away with it. Like, what even is handball afer that madness
November 4, 2025 at 8:39 PM
Handball is one of those rules that you think should be simple, but is no longer. If the rule was simply what it sounds - if it hits hand or arms its a foul - then sure. But it's not. And given that it is not, there is not much more a player can do there.
