We’re excited to share that Eurosky now has a supporting legal entity, @modalfoundation.bsky.social - a new nonprofit dedicated to making open social tech viable at scale. Big Tech’s dominance can feel inevitable, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

In case you’re wondering whether the pro-ICE reactions to Renee Nicole Good’s murder are natural, here’s a comment that was just left on my video. My video about anti-transgender bias at the BBC. I haven’t made a video about Good yet.

Apparently, this new feature is considered a "bug."
If you ask me, it is rather a caterpillar that could be turned into a butterfly by the @bsky.app team. 🤞
In my Bluesky app, I can now see from which of my other feeds the posts originate from in my "discover" feed (see screenshot). This is going in the direction of algorithmic transparency for the user-side that we have been talking about in the past:

Dear friends from the U.S.: Is this how your generation wants to be seen in the world? This will have long lasting consequences for transatlantic relations. Far longer than any presidential term. 🤯
We strongly condemn the U.S. decision to impose travel restrictions on five European individuals, including former Commissioner Thierry Breton.

Per "internal documents written between 2023 and 2025 and viewed by The Washington Post... Instagram staffers considered the mandate to boost teen metrics their top goal last year," including "boosting their messaging activity... to set up an early pipeline for lifelong use of Meta’s platforms."
Inside Instagram’s all-out battle to win the nation’s teens

What's currently happening in the US is part of a long game - and the only viable EU/democratic policy response is a long-term one. Meaning:
❌"How to retaliate in tariffs?"
✅"What's the American dream equivalent of the digital age?"
✅ "Business model for constructive discourse?"

A great thread 👇
While the US is using Immigration threats against researchers and politicians to weaken tech regulation, these threats advance a longer-term effort to weaken the reliability of public knowledge overall.

By understanding the long game, we can think clearly about how to respond.

Did you know that in the 1970s a number of European cancer researchers and lung specialists were barred from entering the US due to their work on carcinogenic effects of tobacco?
You didn't know? Well, that's because it's made-up BS. Even Big Tobacco wasn't as bad as the current US gov & Big Tech.
