This is why I cooled on Threads and Tiktok after trying them for a while, the work to "teach the algorithm" (a) grows tiresome quickly and (b) is like ice skating uphill, the minute you stop or slip, things rapidly get worse. It also forced me to be cautious about things the algo could misinterpret.

You have to try to remember something that flopped, because any tech good enough to stick around didn't *need* to be pushed this hard. Artificial demand is way more expensive and unsustainable than organic demand, they wouldn't be forcing it if they didn't have to.

Then on top of that, you have the cognitive dissonance effect of everyone who's bought in. They can't recognize it as a bad product without admitting they were conned (a career limiting error), and so instead they double down and become evangelists.

It's an upsell by nearly every tech company at the backbone of modern computing (only exception I can think of is Apple), so the b2b relationship coverage is 100%, and the sales effort could not be any more desperate or intense. Because they've made a historically MASSIVE bet that this will sell.

It is usually pitchers with the awful politics, isn’t it. Schilling another one. I wonder if there is something about the clubhouse dynamic, that pitchers can be loners, they don’t have to engage with the diversity of the team. Same is true of kickers in football.

Look, maybe YOU are jaded about how routine it is to fly 40,000 feet off the ground at Mach 0.82 in a 150,000 lb metal bird, and maybe YOU would prefer to fix your eyes on the leaned-back seat in front of you, grinding against your knees, but damn right *I* am gonna look out the window.

I already thought the marketing for this movie was the worst I'd ever seen, *before* I knew about this.

The commercials for Tron: Ares are the worst I’ve ever (?) seen for a movie with a marketing budget that large.

I’m with Aaron, I really enjoyed Collins contagious enthusiasm, in the small-dose context of Red Zone. Modulation is important, I agree, but football is ~60 plays spaced over 3 hours, treating the brief spurts of live ball action as exciting isn’t really that excessive.

It’s very easy to have a confirmation bias with penalty calls, you only notice the ones that go against your team or that a confirm a theory that “the fix is in”. If you actually pay attention, the bad calls go both ways in pretty much every game. Refs just aren’t that great.

You’re right, but that’s why it’s gov’t subsidized. Starlink eats up the gov’t subsidies for something that leaves behind zero infrastructure after 5-7 years. It relies on gov’t subsidy in perpetuity, and I’d bet still loses money even with the subsidy. That’s not good capitalism either!

This is a crazy-short lifespan on Starlink satellites, for how expensive it is to get them in orbit. There is no way this makes economic sense. There are rural areas that need better internet access, but it has to be cheaper in the long-term to lay down cable (plus way higher bandwidth).
Many of these are in low-Earth orbits, which extend up to an altitude of 1,200 miles (2,000 km) above our planet. And the lifespan of low-Earth orbit satellites, such as Starlink, is only about 5 to 7 years. Soon, McDowell told us, there will be up to 5 satellite reentries per day

It's probably the number of accounts that have been created for the developer platform/API, and it's trivially easy to create a developer account. It'd be typical with that kind of platform to "create an app" (or "project"), as a prereq for getting an API key. Step 1 of development.

How convenient for them that they can selectively leak their weekly active user numbers whenever they have a good week. Launch a new product, get truckloads of free media, and suddenly it's time to talk about WAUs!

The unstated NFL rule of conduct is, "don't commit your crimes on tape". Ray Rice and Ray Lewis are the Goofus and Gallant of this rule.

I've never been the biggest fan of the board game, but the roll at the end of this episode made it all worthwhile. That was *extremely* funny.

Saints and Titans both won today, too, they won't go down easy. Browns are actually the only one of the three that lost today.

Both options are terrible, though in slightly different ways. Wentz's advantage on ball security is that his errant bullet passes are uncatchable by everyone other than Jefferson

The way this started out, I was open-mindedly wondering, "where is he going with this?" Then after calling for mass executions of the corrupt cabal, he gets to "for example"... and starts listing off the most benign shit imaginable. Then really shows his ass with the Floyd paragraph.

You know how some people get paranoid, when something they were just talking about turns up in ad, that “my phone was listening to us?” It’s literally that, but sold as a feature.

Ed likes to compare AI revenue to the smartwatch industry, so it would only be fitting that their “killer” product is… basically a smart watch.
