Crazy that in <1 year we went from plans for dedicated lanes to improve performance to ceasing operations. I don’t think the streetcar was particularly well executed, but stuff like this makes me feel despair

Rachel Weiner of the Post confirms that the DC Streetcar will shutter in 5 months, in March, about a year earlier than expected because DC budget cuts + early termination of contract costs.

Operational for a decade, tracks were laid back in 2007.

Honestly amazing how fast this project has gone up, at least partially attributable to not having to dig down to create parking

This new residential building in NoMa is looking great! 100% affordable with 115 new homes, and walkable to Metro, groceries, and schools. With DC Green Bank's energy investments, utility costs will be 15-20% lower than typical!

Looks like CaBi in its current form tops out around 700k trips/month. If we mitigate the bike availability challenge, I expect we’d see a rise in ridership from new capacity.
ggwash.org
Capital Bikeshare recorded 705,343 trips in July, an increase of 19.7% from July 2024. Annual ridership in 2025 is up 27.1% from the same time 2024.
Bikeshare Beat: Over 700K rides in July, over 4 million in 2025

“[this place] is not [that place]” is such a tired, meaningless argument that, in my experience, usually underlies the wrong side of the issue in question

"The District is not New York," says Councilmember Wendell Felder, saying he will oppose funding ranked-choice voting.

"The people spoke," counters @robertwhitedc.bsky.social, though he wants a data check after two cycles to see if there are equity issues.

Looking forward to the reporter who dares to ask the hard question: Is our mayor’s ribbon-cutting addiction interfering with her attention to the actual job?

All while bike and transit usage in DC is increasing faster than most other US cities

“Unprotected bike lanes are fine because people can illegally park in them” is insane tbh

Rode up this bad boy for the first time today 😎

The streetcar is ineffective for 2 reasons and this project is the fix for 1 of those. If driving effectiveness of existing assets is not a core goal, what is?

The H St NE bus lanes are supposed to deliver safety and transit efficiency. If the Mayor cancels them now, it could represent a pattern of killing long-term projects that communities and her own administration have invested in for several years.
Uh oh! Is Bowser trying to kill the long-planned H St NE bus lanes?

Today I had to drop off a box truck about 5 miles away from my home. I was able to drop the truck, unload my bike from the back, and ride back home on (mostly) protected bike infrastructure. Variety in transportation options is a good thing.

When asked what the right price for parking is, this is my answer
Parking rates for a parking lot Paris, free for the first 30 minutes and 60€ per hour.

I have submitted TSIs for it each of the last 2 years and plan to do so again this year. I don’t know if that helps, but I figure it cannot hurt.

RTO, beautiful spring weather, and one of the busiest cherry blossom seasons ever powered Capital Bikeshare to its 3rd biggest month ever with 627k rides, a 43% YoY increase! CaBi also broke its single day record both days of peak bloom weekend, reaching 35,569 rides on March 29!

I think it’s bad that candidates with significant and recent criminal charges have seen increasing success at the ballot box, which seems to be emboldening more candidates with like profiles.

If you don’t pay, your car goes away!

Stay legal: Don’t cover or block your license plate. If you do, your vehicle may be towed.

It’s clear that @wmata.com operators have been directed recently to announce every time a train stops unexpectedly (e.g., waiting for train in front). Small things like that are big for overall customer experience, and I love it. In general, people are less annoyed when they know what’s going on.

I hope @wmata.com sells/auctions these signs so transit enthusiasts can spend hours convincing their partners that this is decor worthy of living room wall space.

We’re thrilled to see the first new bus signs go up as part of our Better Bus initiative! These temporary signs show the current route name & the new route name, which will go into effect on 6/29. Thanks to our crews responsible for changing out over 7k signs across the region!

Never been a better time to live in a car-optional neighborhood. Let’s keep making more of those, so that more can experience freedom from the financial burden of car ownership.

Even without a spike from tariffs, the cost of car ownership (gas, insurance, maintenance, and the car itself) jumped 44% from 2007 to 2023. (Source: www.bts.gov/content/aver...)

Americans pay a massive surcharge for living in a car-dependent nation.
