Watch to the end. Mother Nature is not messing around
Stunning footage from earlier today, when the new Kilauea eruption covered the USGS Webcam 3, which is situated in the Halemaʻumaʻu crater near the southern rim of the much larger Kilauea caldera.

This *isn't* what the people of Pompeii saw.

But it's not very far off.

Lovely hike today. The amber leaves on either side of this connecting trail add some colour to the snowy landscape 😊

AI curious, I asked gpt-5 to show me a number tree diagram of the surreal numbers out to the omega birthday. Wrong - but I had to laugh 😆 #math

Right now, the future we’re building—where trails create new connections for people to safely walk, bike and be active outside—is under attack.

Grateful for The People of the Library. Librarians and their staff are a necessary part of every community. They are true heroes.
And Libby is a lifesaver for anyone who is not able to physically get to a library, and for materials not necessarily available at their local library. Thanks so much!

Murmuration of Sandpipers this afternoon next to San Francisco Bay Trail. Brief appearance by a Cormorant who comes up for air, sees all the sandpipers and sinks back into the Bay.

It’s true! If you feel earthquake shaking or receive an earthquake alert, dive under a desk! Or as we like to say - drop, cover, and hold on.

Sunday morning walk by the river and pumpkin field. We saw hundreds of ducks across the sky, a young eagle in a tree along the Tolt, a kingfisher on a telephone wire, two flickers in a tree, these noisy cowbirds.

Here’s momma & baby Mountain Goat from Glacier National Park for #stunday. Momma just wanted a nap, but baby was not about that life. This was the first time I’d ever seen a mountain goat. One constant in all these national park trips - I had no idea about the diversity of wildlife in this country

Ending NOAA’s partnership with the Alaska Earthquake Center means fewer seismic stations and slower, less accurate tsunami warnings for Alaska, Hawaiʻi, and the West Coast.
NOAA cuts stations used for West Coast tsunami monitoring
NOAA did not renew a contract that supported a handful of seismic stations in Alaska. This could hamper tsunami warnings for Alaska, Hawaiʻi and the West Coast.

Today in history, 1889: Journalist Nellie Bly sets off on a trip around the world alone, attempting to beat the “record” set in Jules Verne’s fictional book, “Around the World in 80 Days.” She ultimately completed the journey in just 72 days, six hours and 11 minutes. /1
