How do any "negotiations" with #Russia matter, given the history of Russia's word? #Ukraine could make as solid of a deal as there ever could be, and Russia will find some excuse to invalidate it.

"They elected a new President, so the former deal is invalid."

-- Putin, 2027
🇺🇦 Commander of Third Army Corps:

Ukraine gave away the third-largest nuclear arsenal for international guarantees. We gave up our missiles to Russia; they later flew on us again.

We must accept reality — the reality as it is. International law, unfortunately, does not function in this trench.

This government needs to discuss Cuba policy urgently because it could blow up very badly for everybody if Trump and Rubio successfully choke off all the Venezuelan oil. Rubio could be the dog that finally caught the car -- and he has no plan for what to do the day after. 1/
Cuba is the ultimate manifestation of the Pottery Barn Rule. If they destabilize the govt & can’t rebuild the economy quickly, then they will face a tsunami of migration that will make the MASSIVE 1980 Mariel Boatlift look like a picnic. Rubio’s dream is Miller’s greatest nightmare. This is no joke!

This is what I was thinking. Physics says the car will keep moving!

If the US holds Venezuela, we will seize 17% of oil -- yesterday's technology. If China uses this precedent to take Taiwan, it will own 60% of semiconductors -- tomorrow's technology. See what happens when you elect evil & stupid at the same time?

None of this excuses Trump, but:

1) There is an OLC opinion that authorizes this, which future AG then OLC head Bill Barr signed in 1989 to authorize the very similar Panama invasion.
2) There is an indictment. It was unsealed under Barr in 2020.
3) Indictment is real. Former top aide pled in June

😐 Residents of Valdai, where Putin's residence is located, did not notice the flight of dozens of UAVs, nor warnings of an attack, and did not hear explosions - Russian opposition media.

Journalists spoke with locals and concluded that the information about a "mass attack" is not confirmed.

NEW: The phone metrics reported publicly by the Social Security Administration are way lower than actual wait times, a new watchdog report shows.

They're going to be gold-plated battleships, aren't they?
🇺🇸 Trump: The battleships are going to be armed just in terms of guns and missiles at the highest level.

They’ll also have hypersonic weapons, state of the art electric railguns, and even the high-powered lasers.

Navy will lead the design of these ships along with me, I’m a very aesthetic person.

47. As Amory Lovins has said for years, no one wants a lump of coal, or a barrel of oil. All we want is a hot shower and a cold beer. And if we can get that heat and light and chilling without paying for (or burning) fuel, we're all happier... with one notable exception.

Offering so-called ‘Article 5–style security assurances’ is a trapp convincing Ukraine to give up Donbas.

When Russia resumes war, Trump will blame Ukraine for ‘not needing to attack Russia’.

Exactly this. I graduated in 1982 & remember reading 2-3 books or plays per year. (One was always a Shakespeare play.) I’d rather students read fewer books with in-depth analysis than skimming thru multiple books just to have a certain number checked off a list.
