One-in-ten adults on low-to-middle incomes are now carers.

This has widened the gap between lower and higher income families when it comes to caring responsibilities.
Chart showing proportion of working-age adults who are caring for a sick, disabled or elderly person for at least five hours a week, by income group: UK
The chart shows that throughout the 2000s and 2010s, adults in low-to-middle income families were consistently more likely to provide care for at least five hours a week than those on higher incomes, with rates hovering around 8 per cent and 6 per cent respectively. (This can include caring for someone in the same household or a different household, and the person being cared for can be any age, including disabled children and pensioners). Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, caring rates among
low-to-middle income families have increased further, widening the gap; by 2023-24, one-in-ten (10 per cent) low-to-middle income adults had caring responsibilities.

To all you patriots (and UK authorities)

Is this not political interference of the most egregious and socially divisive kind?

I have a question. How are we supposed to get to this venue by bicycle? As far as I can tell, the only way to cross the bypass from Edinburgh is on the unlit canal path at night. This includes two very narrow sections under bridges. Also, no sign of cycle parking at the venue.

On the centenary of Thatcher's birth, there have been predictable calls for a memorial to her memory. But Britain's 2300 food banks serve that purpose already.

Worth noting that Labour deputy leadership candidate Bridget Phillipson has been handed £60,000 by the Israel lobby, and that pro-Israel former hedge fund manager Stuart Roden has donated £80,000 supporting the office costs of Phillipson and Lisa Nandy? #bbclaurak

Agree, and I think that is a major problem as some in Labour/govt actually seem to think the responses on X reflect public opinion! So their policies shift to align and “lobby” to that audience, leading to a vicious cycle.

Just seen Riverdance, the 30th Anniversary show tonight, at the Playhouse in Edinburgh!

An awesome show… brilliantly performed.

So the Riverdance 30th Anniversary show has all the original sections and excitement of the original. Well worth catching, if you are able to. Brought back great memories, as a cousin of mine sang in the original show.
