I had just returned to Australia, and I remember my friend who used to ask people random, mildly awkward but they shouldn't be questions as a bit, leaning over the table to ask "Do you like Bic Runga" in the middle of lunch and me really not knowing how to answer that, laughing uncontrollably.

Excellent. I'd seen them described as such before but never thought to look into it any further, but that makes sense to me.

Just curious, would wipers be considered proto-punk?
trivialal.bsky.social
I couldn't agree more (also a Sydneysider)

St Kilda breaking the AFL trade social contract, and being the first to do it, is quite the heel turn after last year.

This is going to sound morbid but truly it isn't. My best mate passed away 8 years ago and my brain still sparkles whenever there is something I need to tell him. I work near Jackson's on George sometimes, and every time I see it I NEED TO TELL CHRIS. look what they have done! MARVEL AT IT

The gentrified Jacksons on George still looks a little weird to me.

When I saw the Dirty Three at the opera house, they walked out (or possibly closed the show, but I'm pretty sure walked out) to the lido shuffle by bozz Scaggs and emphatically enjoyed the entire song.

I have loved that song ever since.

I'm so easy.

Croydon park being in the inner west defies both the red rooster line and the "people who think anything west of Stanmore maccas is *too far*" segment, but also aligns with the train lines and also the "west begins when you pass under that Arnott's bridge thing in Homebush/nth Strathfield"
trivialal.bsky.social
Being serious for a moment, the reason it's such a fun contentious thing is that it's constantly changing. Pratten park in Ashfield has "western suburbs tennis club", during the Pokemon go craze people in Rhodes complained their quiet inner west neighbourhood was being overrun by nerds etc etc
trivialal.bsky.social
Croydon for sure - but once you start being neighboured by portmanteaus, it's defs debatable.

@azrebb.bsky.social's Burwood corollary (Burwood is outside the inner west, Strathfield arguably is inside) also plays havoc here.
trivialal.bsky.social
A few questions, but the most pressing one - are we comfortable describing Croydon park as the "inner west"?

Also : who is supplying doggies fans with long arms?

And why shoot at one of the cutest shopping strips remaining in Sydney?
Pictured: Alleged gunman identified after terrifying inner west shooting spree
Artemios Mintzas, 60, was taken into police custody after a frightening ordeal which sent an inner west suburb into lockdown with more than 50 bullets fired.

This could well still be anyone's game.

I backed the storm to win, basically I think Brisbane's attack matches them. It's going to be a possession game in this half, my gut says Brissy but head says Melbourne hang on

Teddy swims is pretty great! I will never listen to him outside of this probably, but defs the best NRL entertainer in ages. Knew he had 3 songs and popped in an appropriate cover and boom.

Happy 4th anniversary of picnicfest, where we in Sydney were finally allowed to see people outside of our lga's and meet in a park. We found that a park in Pyrmont was within the zone for my sister and my parents so finally saw them in person for the first time in months.

Ahhh, @ingress.com , any chance you can extend +delta for me for another two days?

And mine totally would have if it was a common tradition

Mine didn't, we had a formal, but there was no king/queen type deal

From ASPI, a look at “how Starlink is powering Myanmar’s scam economy”, which I’m sure comes as no great surprise. How else do you connect to the jungle? aspicts.substack.com/p/the-monthl...

Not actually “power” of course, but “provide infrastructure to”. A *lot* of infrastructure.

After doing a cooking class in Bali, we decided to give it a go tonight. Round one - nasi Goreng. Not bad! Probably used the wrong sambal, as it packed a bit too much of a punch, but hey, needs must.

Man the score isn't reflective of it but the Giants are so much better now than they were at the beginning of the season. Their contest today has been so heartening against a really good side in West coast. #aflw

Get some takeaway (pizza or Thai) in Kirribilli and eat it under the harbour bridge.
There is probably something excellent on at the MCA in the rocks.
Actually a ghost tour in the rocks sounds cheesy but it's actually a great way to learn some history when I've done them with visitors.

Well the zoo rules. Newtown and Enmore are the hipster/student enclaves, so worth walking around. Great food all over the place - Cabramatta for Vietnamese, Harris Park for Indian, Chatswood for Cantonese, if in the city, go to spice alley.
The Bondi to Coogee or spit to manly coast walks are good
