When I was a kid growing up in Newcastle and Northumberland I experienced horrendous racism. It was one of the reasons I moved away.
I am sure that most of the people who did it would now say that they never 'directly racially abused' me. Or did it without intent.
It still fucked me up though. 🤷♂️
