Okay. This is going to be my baking thread. Follow along with me on my journey if you want.
Not only did the ex-husband absolutely turn her in, but this also goes to show that no matter how close you embed yourself into this faction of the government as a "non-member", you can even be married into it, you are still vulnerable and will never be fully welcome.
“After Ferreira was detained, Dos Santos Rodrigues said Michael Leavitt Sr. and his father, Bob Leavitt, reached out to her.”

A lot of critics of ICE see it as distinct from policing because of antiblackness. But then a lot of those who say ICE is policing aren‘t concerned with the policing of Black people, just immigrants they race as not Black.

This is something I’ve been waiting for, been afraid of.

I may be misreading this quote, but a family friend has a daughter in the US who has been trying for citizenship and whose husband is the kind of person I wouldn’t put it past to call ICE on her and keep the kids.
"A woman with a family connection to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Revere, Massachusetts."

Fleetwood Mac 's "Silver Springs" is a trending sound right now at least on Insta, and people are using it for ... their wedding videos and getting brunch with friends.

they hear "you won't forget me" and go "awww 🥹"

🫠 You don't even need to know the background, just actually listen to the song

Me about to piss off a bunch of capitalists: If Bezos doesn’t want to pay his fair share in corporate taxes, I don’t see why we shouldn’t nationalise Amazon and make it a subsidiary of the post office.

I run customer-facing teams and getting a deluge of complaint calls between Thanksgiving and NYE is literally a nightmare scenario that risks turning into a cascade (a couple people quit, more work for the rest, so a couple more quit, etc)

we will NEVER have more leverage than now through NYE
Spoke to my source familiar with internal workings at Mastercard. The holiday call campaign re payment processor censorship is working, there is a lot of pressure being felt from your calls. This is resulting in increased response times at a core moment for Mastercard due to the holiday season

I remain convinced DOGE was a massive, planetary scale data exfiltration scheme and that Palantir has it all now
Musk's people infiltrated the GSA technology arm early on and demanded root-level access to computer systems, trying to circumvent normal security procedures. Here's one example where they pushed so hard they forced someone to resign rather than give in.

Why did they do this?

A worker resigned in protest rather than giving Thomas Shedd access to Notify.gov, which they said would allow him to see "all personally identifiable information moving through the Notiy system, incl...

And the folks who are actually writing full-time generally only got there after years of day jobs, family support, or both.

The point of sharing this is not to demoralize anyone, but to let emerging writers know they're not failing if they can't make a living off writing alone. Almost no one can.
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

Even if I know it, I might just look it up and go down a rabbit hole again just to refresh my memory.
I am a chronic Googler. It does not matter what the topic is. If I do not understand what someone is talking about it, I’m going to look it up. Every time. Even if it’s none of my business, even if it’s not important. To know that I don’t know something is like an itch that must be scratched.

Defending your Thanksgiving with “We don’t use it to celebrate genocide!” isn’t the issue. It’s still poison without a pilgrim hat.

It’s the mindlessness.

It’s the fact you eat a gluttonous meal on our stolen land while our access to food — our salmon, buffalo, corn — remains decimated. (1/3)

DOGE is going to be a litmus test for the Democrats.

If we end up with a Democratic president and a majority in the Senate or House in 2028, and they don’t go back and hold Musk and entire operation accountable…I’d have to conclude they secretly supported DOGE.
