No idea why an Afghan refugee shot National Guard soldiers within walking distance of the White House, but this new USCIS directive was revealed on Monday. Worth noting.
The folks at @afghanevac.bsky.social have in hand a new USCIS directive which largely targets Afghan refugees who fled the Taliban in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

In case you needed a reminder that the most loathsome people in the world work for DHS.

a side note: you can learn *a lot* about British journalism when you realize that Boris Johnson was fired from his first job in it for serial dishonesty, and then promptly hired into a new job, where he continued to make up lies.
Not to pat my profession on the back, for all of our problems, but I do think it's to the law's credit that every US bar association that reviewed Glass' application for a license went "fuuuuuuuuuuuck no."

A simple question for the people pushing stuff called AI in education and other fields, and especially for the people spending large amounts of money: Where's your data? What evidence do you have that this stuff is worth the cost (or even the below-cost price this stuff is being sold at)?

No way is Robinson Crusoe that high. You gotta find a space for both Emma and Jane Eyre.
1. Middlemarch

3. Robinson Crusoe

Folks, two things can true at the same time.

These 2 National Guard members should not have been shot, and it's a disgusting act of violence. And, Trump + Miller have deliberately deployed them to incite division { violence. That's part of Miller's plan. They have no reason to be in our cities.
National Guard members should never have been deployed in Washington, DC.

I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.

IMO the weird exception some supposed leftists seem to make for condemning-the-theft-of-labor-except-art-lol-steal-that-shit is just a weird intersection with puritan "if you enjoy yourself, it's not a real job" brainworms.

"fun" job = member of the leisure class (ROFL) = fair game. Somehow.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

It really just comes down to trying to integrate all of the potential slayers. It was very Scrappy Doo there at the end.
I've watched the full series at least a dozen times, and season seven is easily the worst one.

Inflation is driving up prices for Thanksgiving staples. Since last year:

– Turkey is up 36%
– Ham is up 49%
– Cranberry sauce is up 22%

Trump’s trade war is shrinking portions and making the holidays less affordable.

I quite like Glass Onion, which I realize is BLASPHEMY to some, but I find its presentation of our glossy dystopia to be closer to the mark than most other movies made of late.
It's also bleakly funny that even in 2022 I thought it was laying it on awful thick about tech bro douches, but if anything Norton's character is way too aware of other people as a concept and is at least attempting to fake an interesting inner life.
Pregaming for Wake Up Dead by watching Glass Onion, for some reason it especially pleases me that Rian Johnson has Blanc quote "My God, it's full of stars" and make note that the line is from 2010 not 2001.

And why should someone have to bear the cost of food delivery? Or be restricted to Walmart? And how did this become specifically about Atlanta? So many goal posts.

Anyway delivery is not an adequate replacement for a physical store in accessible proximity of where one lives.
Walmart+ costs $13/mo and gives free delivery on orders over $35.

You can get fresh produce in any 'food desert' near-ish to a Walmart, which includes all of Atlanta.
When you are talking about a food desert, the market is definitionally not providing access to food because there is…no store.
