Figuring out who's bringing the handwarmers and granola bars, and who's picking up pallets of water from Costco to bring to the people out directing traffic around ICE convoys? There's no deep magic here, just the knowledge that no one else is gonna do it for you.

Hahaha, MAGA you puny bitches, I was second in charge of a multi-day, multi-stage festival of goth/industrial bands, artists, fashion designers, and DJs, pulled together with zero money, one billion tons of ego, literal clothespins, and 25-pg checklists on a clipboard. Nerds INVENTED logistics.
Aging indie/punk people, romance people &zine people, activists ofc too, all kinds of creative & resourceful people, we're talking & having ideas & doing the thing. "Who's paying for this" wingnuts scream. LOL babe that's cute. we're used to doing something cool for no money, powered partly by spite

The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced the Democrats have to push their hand immediately. The parallels with the delays and subsequent failures after January 6th are blaring warning signs about what will happen if they don’t go after the issues with ICE and CBP at the root RIGHT NOW.

Political Scientists would call it a "tactical concession" (RRS' Spiral Model). Human rights and democracy campaigners need to make sure it leads to more gains (positive spiral) instead of stalling progress (negative spiral).
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

I mean no, "You are a sad deluded man in a skirt and that's why I gave the host of 'Celebrity Apprentice' intercontinental ballistic missiles," really is one of those things where even if I were to grant the initial premise, what follows is a bit of a trip.
It's just a tactic. The means justify the ends. A lot of people have a strong, visceral, negative reaction to anything genderish that's abnormal. The fascists are just using this to consolidate power. "trans is why world bad, vote republican for no trans." I mean, we all understand this.

Since we’re talking abt HP today, there’s smth I’ve been thinking abt.

One thing it did really well was that as the kids aged, not only the subject matter but the reading level scaled up. If you were Harry’s age, the book was written for you. I’d love recs for an alternative YA series that did that

Even when they show signs of weakness or forced regret, we must not give an inch. Authoritarian governments still respond to public opinion, which is why sustained pressure matters. We have to keep making clear that these thuggish actions are unconscionable and will not be tolerated. Don’t let up.

this is a very weak piece, for multiple reasons. its claim about Gen Z is based on a couple of comments, not actual sales. it is also extremely normal for kids not to be *that* into a series from two decades ago. And there's minimum mention of Rowling turning into a fervent bigot.
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Younger generations “have fallen out of love with Harry Potter because they have fallen out of love with the worldview the series represents,” writes Louise Perry. “Which is to say that young people have fallen out of love with liberalism.”
