Happy October! Let’s try this again and see if you can see the teaser to my latest short OFRENDA, which is apparently so scary Bluesky doesn’t want you to see it! #filmsky #scriptsky

The Fury and The Mind’s Eye also pair really well with Scanners, if you want to have a marathon.
Guess which category JACK-O fell into.
Seeing Cameron Mitchell in the credits can mean anything from “a Hollywood classic western” to “A stylish Mario Bava movie” to “the craziest VHS schlock imaginable.” What a career.

JACK-O is the kinda movie where it both feels like there’s an endless onslaught of nonsense but also nothing is happening.

He works perfectly because he’s got the gravitas to be the character in a real cop movie AND the comedic chops to nail the spoof elements.
I maintain that if this movie were released in the 80s by Cannon, it would have a massive cult following and a boutique 4K that I paid way too much for.

Kevin Durand is a tremendously underrated actor. He’s got the physique of a heavy and the sensibilities of a weirdo character actor. It’s always great when a movie lets him be both.

Woohoo! Made it back from FRANKENSTEIN in order to hop onto @therealjoebob123.bsky.social’s SPLATTERWEEN special and it’s only halfway through movie 1, which I’ve already seen! There’s way more than one Clown in this Cornfield.

I love Andrew Garfield but Jacob Elordi was born (or made?) to play the Creature in the newest FRANKENSTEIN from @realgdt.bsky.social. A towering performance both literally and figuratively. Glad I got to see it on the big screen. #filmsky
Pregaming Del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN with Coppola’s DRACULA because it just feels like the right thing to do. #filmsky
I getcha but I’m strictly interested in horror icons on this front, with spouses. They’re habitually single predators that may obsess or use someone that’s beautiful but attaining romance and matrimony with one is the anomaly I’m fascinated by.
SAW X is an odd film. It is the 10th film, a return to its mythology after it tried to reinvent itself twice, the 2nd story chronologically, and the best film of its franchise.

Every other film ends with a door closing. This one ends with one wide open. I hope it’s the last. #filmsky.

The Bride of Frankenstein’s Monster would count if she hadn’t been an instant rejection. I don’t think the Devil in RB counts as iconic. Nobody is off buying merch of that Devil, as great as the film is.
Nah. I don’t feel like Mina/Nina quite count in the same way. I’m looking for the absurdity of a killer with a spouse. Predatory seduction feels like a different beast to me.
Are they married though? I thought it was just an on the run together situation. Still counts but I think Jigsaw gets bonus points for putting a ring on it.

Dracula is still winning though.
Dracula is a good call because he had 3! Did Lecter have a wife? I’m not recalling one though in the TV series, Gillian Anderson’s Bedilia poses as one (earning an asterisk in my book)
Any gender killer icon with a highly attractive partner is welcome to the conversation. Who is punching above their weight in murder and “Riz,” as the kids call it. We need to know!

One thing we learned from Ernest Dickerson’s Q&A was that Billy Zane used to carry around a trunk of toupees that he had directors choose from. He was very excited to be bald here
Is Jigsaw the only horror icon to canonically have a smoke show for a wife, with Betsy Russell as Jill? Chucky is disqualified on a technicality because he didn’t marry Tiff until she was a doll. #filmsky
Heh. Yes. And unlike most horror franchises, outside of JIGSAW and SPIRAL, they have a tight mythology where the entire pleasure of the franchise is how it pays off points and twists you wouldn’t suspect mattered. 7 reveals how a minor plot detail from 2 happened. Fun, gory melodrama!
