hello if I am following you do not have to follow me back

unless you really want to hear progressive jewish takes and see low quality photos of birds of prey, then have at it
The obligatation-follow-back etiquette is weird to me, regardless of followers. People should follow folks whose posts they think will add value to their feed and not take it personal if that isn't the case. I post a lot of niche stuff, so I totally get if those I follow do not care about that shit.
I rescued a toad tonight. It was dark and I almost stepped on him, but luckily saw him in time. Anyway, he's my new best friend. We're running away together.

(I took some pictures with him, then released him in a safer location than where I found him)

I'm not entirely sure why but my bluesky feed is full of Alan Cumming today, and I am a thousand percent okay with this.

Doing whatever they can to make it as hard as possible for impoverished people to live.
Trump administration will require SNAP participants to reapply for benefits
The move is part of USDA chief Brooke Rollins’ effort to overhaul the nation’s largest anti-hunger program and get rid of “fraud.”

It has been a hard week. All I want is cake.

Cake and the dismantling of the oppressive and cruel systems that threaten people's lives and safety.

But also cake.

More snugglefriends today!

Once again, Stormageddon was mostly asleep when Sammy helped himself to some coerced friendship by climbing in to share the bed, but they're getting there.

Storm is rarely running from Sammy now and will initiate wrestling on his own if the Sammich pesters him too much.

I'm legitimately confused about the play here. No person who now is going to go without coverage in the ACA is going to just blame the GOP. They will rightly blame the Democrats too. Dems won't get "points" for "fighting" if they cave. It makes little sense.

Not just for your safety, but theirs! If you love wildlife, let it be wild. Humans are by FAR the biggest threat to wildlife. Even if you mean well, you're making them comfortable around humans and human activity. As a rehabber, we love it when animals in our care don't like us!
STAY. AWAY. FROM. WILDLIFE. Keep your trash locked up. Do not feed wildlife or otherwise encourage it to hang around human habitation.
Apparently missing out on some exciting rabid fox neighborhood drama

Look, I realise I am incredibly privileged that this shutdown hasn't impacted my ability to eat, but to end it without any benefit seems pretty terrible. We asked our most vulnerable people to sacrifice to an unfathomable degree and then we just gave up without any good coming from it in the end?

I do not believe that anti-Zionism is antisemitic, and I have consistently argued against those who say it is, but if you see the act of condemning anti-Diaspora antisemitism as inherently Zionist and pro-Israel, you are really telling on yourself.
The pro-Palestine group Within Our Lifetime has already decided that Zohran Mamdani has sold out the pro-Palestine cause... by condemning swastikas drawn on a Jewish day school in Brooklyn. forward.com/culture/7822...
Mamdani's first statement on antisemitism as mayor-elect got some weird pushback
After someone spraypainted a swastika on a yeshiva, Zohran Mamdani condemned antisemitism. Somehow, this generated conspiracy theories.

Looking for a new GP, find one with good reviews, but her About page is only 2 sentences and one is "I am a Christian who believes in the power of prayer."

IDC about religious affiliation generally, but if that's 1 of 2 sentences you feel is critical to include on an MD website, that is a red flag.

As much as the Trumpists claim to disavow the War on Terror, they walk a path paved by the most powerful vice president in U.S. history.

I'm not saying she is -THE- cutest Western Screech Owl🪶 on earth, but ... she's got to be top 3 right?

[This is a non-releasable owl that cannot survive in the wild. Possessed and handled with all appropriate training and permits]

I recorded our extremely chatty Great Horned Owl and made some looped audio to go with my porch owl tonight using a bluetooth speaker.

Didn't get many kids this year, but a lot of them were delighted by the owl, including one toddler who just kept yelling "OWL! OWL! OWL!" in escalating excitement.

IMO fostering this sentiment is the value of things like the heavily-criticised No Kings protests. The critiques are often valid, but they still get people to start moving a positive direction and they still communicate to our communities that there are many of us, and invite them to stand up too.
4) every day people who "have never done this before" decide today is the day, I'm now a person who does this. We're not only not alone, our numbers are growing every single day. Every. Single. Day.

tl;dr- I don't believe that *I* will win.

But so what?

I believe that *WE* will win.
