I write comics sometimes. One of my comics has made people cry. Their tears feed me. A chaotic disaster of a bisexual. Just making my way through life while disappointing my parents. He/him or they/them. Slowly moving from the former to the latter.

First time doing #PortfolioDay.

I'm Burt. I'm a writer of comics, prose and fan-fiction. Not a lot published yet, but keen to do more.
Variety of genres but feel a pull towards horror and fantasy.
Also done a little bit of editing work.

I have watched as so-called "compromise" positions on transgender people's rights have failed over and over--in statehouses, the Biden White House, and in liberal rhetoric. There is no middle ground acceptable to the politicians, activists, and billionaires obsessed with trans people and our lives.
Been a while since I've been on Bluesky, and came back to a few 'this person has followed you notifications'.

Most always leave me with a 'what post or comment or what made them follow me?' Though some, of the 'selling you titillation' variety, aren't so hard to gauge.
I am also somebody who will use a run-on sentence to explain something unnecesary/useless to your life.
I am the kind of person who will be writing a message/text/comment/whatever and go into an aside so use brackets, only to then discover that aside has an aside so go back and change first bracket to a comma so I can use brackets for second aside.
This is obviously not a fully comprehensive look at, what I understand of myself to be, rather nuanced views. Even on my final point I find myself at odds with myself.
I do often wish I had a simpler, more aimed morality. Would make things easier. But it wouldn't be me, nor what Animorphs taught me.
Due to the state of things in the world I've thought about my own morality a lot lately, and kinda need to just express it.
Without the latter the former just becomes another immoral act, and that is almost always where good intentions lead to greater harm.
I also feel that sometimes immoral things must be done in the service of greater moral truths, however that must always be accompanied by a transparency and accountability.
On the whole I believe in having strong convictions, particularly in regard to the life and agency of people. Especially the last point, to me the most abhorrent action is a removal or outright ignoring of a person's consent.

Realised I shared this with zero context (and debated leaving it that way).

My DnD group just started a new mini-campaign using the Anime rule books where we play isekai'd versions of ourselves.
I became a Pet Monster Trainer whose Pet Monster is Toasta (another player created the human leg canon).
Toasta Trainer Burt Wants to Battle!

This is my latest piece of art. Been working on it over the last couple weeks (colouring took ages for being so simple).
Done pretty much entirely from references/tracing. Some minor full freehand, though mostly just for cleaning stuff up.

I am the kind of lucky who puts headphones in when I go to the shops, get back to the car and can't find the case, then see it sitting lodged under the wheel of the car beside me that had been there the entire time...
One of my favourite things about writing my first drafts out behind is seeing the different pens used as I go, and watching them slowly die.
It's like a weird version of sedimentary rock layers.

Just a periodic reminder that it's a good idea to bookmark your favorite artists' sites, sign up for their newsletters, and follow them everywhere you can. (My links are in my profile & pinned post!). Because of the current climate of censorship you never know where we'll get kicked off of next.
Me just side-eyeing the chips (crisps, I'm Australian and writing 'crisps' just doesn't feel right to me) that I bought under the idea that they were somehow a "nutritious" breakfast/brunch choice.

One of my first big comics was Faith from Valiant, an Eisner-nominated book that was positive & inclusive. The Bloodshot news from last week was beyond disappointing.

So for one week, I'll donate all profits from Faith shop sales to Trans Lifeline. And take 15% off Valiant with the code "LIFELINE".

DEATH OF THE HEART IS OUT!!!! 🥳🎉🎊✨
I am so hyped to share this with the world!!! Hands down the best musical project I’ve done so far! A special record, and I appreciate everyone who helped make it possible, everyone who bought - copy, and everyone giving it a listen!!!!
This. We don't even have the best copyright protections for individuals and they still find it too unfair to the rich who can, apparently, only make money by stealing.

If your industry requires theft to work then it deserves to collapse on itself.
When they say 'copyright reform', they mean, 'convincing governments to change the law to make it legal to steal from artists, so billionaires don't have to pay'.
Australia is stuck in the “worst of possible worlds” when it comes to AI and the use of local data, according to Productivity Commission chair Danielle Wood, arguing that reforms to copyright law could help Australian companies compete globally and strengthen the local AI industry.

Trying to work out the outfits characters will wear to prom for my comic WIP has really hammered in two things-

1- How uninteresting 'masculine' outfits tend to be.

2- How internalised the idea that 'feminine' outfits have to all be different from each other is.
Was gonna make some dumb joke about how this FB 'memory' is nothing, but then realised that's most of my actual memories...
Thank you!

It's such a goofy looking bird and I love them. Have such a soft spot in my heart for ospreys.
Thank you so much!

I'm teaching myself to draw using references and such so this felt like a perfect way to practice more.
