In a time of ongoing attacks against our communities, we need our elected officials--at every level of government--to be front and center in the fight against fascist cruelty.

Miguel has spent over a decade doing just this kind of work…

The city plans to continue to sweep northwest side encampments, but there's no emergency shelter in that area for single unhoused Chicagoans to go to. A tentative city-state partnership is looking to change that. I wrote about it for week's Make it Make Sense:

Several Chicago newsrooms spent two months collecting and analyzing evidence of ICE & Border Patrol's use of tear gas and pepper spray in Chicago.

They found that agents deployed chemical agents nearly 50 times. Most uses occurred after a judge ordered federal agents to restrict their use.

it’s important for us to know political history.

it’s also important to call out the MANY things Rahm Emanuel did as he tries — in real time — to smooth talk his way into 2028
As Chicago undergoes the 2026 budget season, digging for ways to close a $1.15 billion shortfall, past choices of previous mayors echo throughout City Hall.

“The fact that how we got to this point is Rahm Emanuel decided, by fiat, to get rid of the head tax.”

Emanuel killed it. Johnson wants it back. Chicago’s corporate head tax debate is about more than money • The TRiiBE
Proponents say former Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s removal of the corporate head tax left a hole in the city's budget that was never replaced; they want the rich to pay their fair share.

The actions of the Trump administration make no sense if we try to grapple with them as even traditional Republican calls for “law and order.”

But we can see and name that Trump and his backers’ explicit goal is an all-white America, which allows us to make clearer choices as we fight back. (2/2)

Thread from a journalist trying to explain what it feels like to observe federal terror in Chicago. It is disorienting and exhausting.

It may be helpful for folks to understand and contextualize what’s happening right now under the umbrella of “ethnic cleansing.” (1/2)
I get I don't have in my history exhaustive library of encounters. But doesn't feel even like extension of the worst policing I've seen, and I've seen bad. This feels different effort entire, started from scratch with few rules and better tech and pushing boundaries of what can be gotten away with.
