In a democracy based on freedom and the rule of law, we don’t jail public officials—or anyone—because of policy disagreements. We need everyone to repudiate this nonsense because a president cannot act as a prosecutor, judge, jury and dictator.

I know. We sometimes wish the courts might be governed by "common sense," but they are institutions that have adhered to a strict traditon, and for the most part that's probably been a good thing.

With Trump, we learned first hand and in the hardest way that "justice delayed is justice denied."

It's difficult to dislodge any sitting president.

It's worse because there are no 'guardrails' inside the WH to check him—and the GOP-controlled Congress has ceded its power

BUT, as he escaltates, he will meet further resistance.

Republicans will jump a sinking ship. And he's toast.
No Kings
As the president escalates his authoritarian power grab, the NO KINGS non-violent movement continues to rise stronger. We are united once again to remind the world: America has No Kings and the power ...

To date, we are unaware of Grijalva appealing to a federal judge, nor has a federal judge volunteered to come forward.

One would think that if a federal judge "can" override the Speaker's refusal to swear her in, then it would have happened?

But I agree, the shutdown excuse is b.s..

U.S. District Judge April Perry says it comes down to a "credibility determination."

"I simply cannot credit [the Trump administration's] declarations to the extent they contradict state and local law enforcement. … DHS' perception of events are simply unreliable."

#BREAKING A federal judge say she will grant "in part" a request by the state of Illinois for a temporary restraining order against the deployment of National Guard troops into the state.

U.S. District Judge April Perry is still ruling and has not outlined the details of her order.

Until WH invokes The Insurrection Act / Martial Law

➡️The “3.5% Rule”⬅️

- is the idea that no revolutions have failed once 3.5% of the population has actively participated in an observable peak event like a battle, a mass demonstration, or some other form of mass noncooperation. -Chenoweth (2021)

Resistance is not "one and done."

Resistance is constant until the tide turns.

People misunderstand the "3.5% rule" about resisting authoritarians, thinking it's a threshold you cross. Instead it's a level that must be maintained over a long period of time.
unlikelysuperheros.bsky.social
This is as true today as it was 6 months ago.

On October 18th, the people have the opportunity to realize The 3.5% Rule.

Remember the 3.5% rule. We need to mobilize 3.5% for sustained nonviolent protests. Preferably sooner than later.

This is no small task. That's 11.7 million out protesting!

Yes. The current administration has had to walk back on a number of initiatives because they lacked public support. We win some and we lose some.

Successful resistance depends on the right strategy and implementation.

This is what I've learned thus far:
These are the most important lessons that I've learned from studying the works of Srdja Popovic, Erica Chenoweth, Gene Sharp, and other experts.

First: Draw a line in the sand, such that the dictator is on one side and EVERYONE ELSE (even the most devoted member of the inner circle) is on the other.

Second: Keep in mind the probable tipping point. In the

United States, it could mean 3.5% of the population is actively engaged in (overt or covert) resistance of various kinds. That would include boycotts and strikes. However, the 3.5% rule of thumb does not guarantee success; it's not a law of physics or a magic spell.

Third: All fascist regimes are fragile. They have weak points, and humiliating them is a surprisingly successful way to erode their support. It's crucial that they look like unpopular losers in a way that makes international news.

Fourth: Resistance actions need brilliant concepts, design, planning, implementation, and follow up. Great timing, teamwork, and sensitivity to cultural context are also crucial.

This is what tyranny looks like. President Trump is using the Justice Department as his personal attack dog, targeting Attorney General Tish James for the ‘crime’ of prosecuting him for fraud—and winning.

We are witnessing the most lawless behavior by a leader in American history, just daily, extraordinary abuses of power. National Democrats must speak out in a loud and clear voice against Trump's escalating authoritarianism. It is time now.

Trump is illegally bombing boats w/zero evidence in foreign waters.

He just bombed Iran after tearing up a peace deal Iran was complying with.

He’s down w/ethnic cleansing of Gaza.

He’s deploying armed troops into US cities & lying abt why.

He doesn’t care about “peace.”
He cares about a prize.

So if Trump brings peace to the Middle East, all you’re thinking is that he did it to win the Nobel Peace Prize? You don’t know that. Maybe it means more to him that he accomplished peace and that it’s part of his legacy, and the Nobel is secondary. But it’s amazing how you nullify the historic

Please, consider reviewing The 3.5% Rule. There are a number of treatises on the subject.

A WWII Resistance model—now—would provide POTUS & Miller all the excuse they need to invoke

The Insurrection Act of 1807

... and then the even more ill-defined Martial Law.
