Thank you! Thankfully it's a short week, and I'm spending time with good friends on thursday and friday.

I already had a phone interview. I should be finding out whether or not I get an in-person interview today or tomorrow. Here's to hoping!

#Bookvember 25

I'm going back to The Vampire Chronicles for this one. Marius becomes a mentor to Lestat, even though he has no obligation to. He tries to help, despite having to keep secrets, and that's always fun. Marius as a character is sensitive and headstrong; imperfect mentors are so fun!

I don't really pay much attention to tropes so I haven't actively avoided any in Such Sweet Sorrow. I HAVE put a little bit of "best friend in love" in there, but I purposefully made the feelings requited but the relationship not happen because Rebecca is in a vulnerable mindset.
#Novmemeber 25

Anti-tropes: what are some tropes that you've purposefully avoided in your WIP? OR, are there any tropes that you've put a twist on?

Hoping to just get through this week. I need a bit of a break, but also I'm waiting to hear back about a potential job interview. So not many creative goals right now.
#queerwriters Monday: Goals Day!

What do you hope to accomplish this week? Can be anything, big or small! Let us know so we can cheer you on!

Yes, quite a few in The Night Garden series. The plan is that they eventually get their own books. Esmeralda's book is largely romance, where the main series is dark fantasy. Most others will be in the same genre as the main series.

All of the marketing help things out there are like "ready to build your empire?"

And i'm over here like, no. No i'm not. I don't WANT an empire. I want to live off of my art and writing without endlessly adding to the babble out there. That's all.

Yes, quite often. I can't listen to podcasts or videos β€” too distracting β€” but I like throwing on music to help me lock in.

Winnie's likely a viper, but that's mean to snakes. Gotta think slimier -- maybe a moray eel?

Anne Rice going, "Oops I love this character, time to redeem him!" between books than having a heel turn. (2/2)

This is an interesting question! The only examples I can think of this that I've actually read are classics like Christmas Carol or Picture of Dorian Gray. I don't think I have a favorite, in that regard, unless you include The Vampire Chronicles, but Lestat is kind of more - (1/2)

Exactly! Hair is a comfort for them :)
November 24, 2025 at 12:19 PM
I forgot to add, Acanthus usually wears theirs down but will braid it when they're anxious.
November 24, 2025 at 4:15 AM
Acanthus (The Night Garden series) has thick, waist-length auburn hair that's in loose curls. Rebecca (Such Sweet Sorrow) has an angled bob haircut in platinum blonde.

I'm just past 50k words, and I just made a snippet graphic for one of my favorite parts, actually!

Rebecca is exhausted, but happier than she's been through the whole story lol.
November 23, 2025 at 5:29 PM
#Novmemeber 22 (playing catchup)

Rebecca is hyper critical, focuses on work instead of dealing with her emotions, and deals with stress by ordering greasy food.

Lemon Balm Bonus: Acanthus lives in their head and jumps to extremes, Cypress pretends that he's fine when he's not and ignores problems.

#Bookvember 23 Lucky Day, Chuck Tingle. Vera is a self-hating pessimist through most of it, so the twist at the end was really unexpected and refreshing. I can't go into details because it's fairly new and I don't want to spoil, but -- if you want to avoid pessimistic nihilism, maybe skip this one.

I remember really liking that she was lost and unsure of herself, but still tried to move forward in the only ways she could think of. (3/3)

mother into it. She has to try and save her father from being kidnapped by the villain and try and find her mother and get the characters back into their book. It was a trilogy; I never read the third book, but I recently picked it up and I want to re-read the series. (2/3)

#Bookvember 22 (I'm late, sorry!)

I think I have to say Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. That series was so, so good, and it's one of the few younger-audience books that I read at the time it came out. Meg's father Mo is a silvertongue and accidentally read the villain out of a book and Meg's (1/3)

#QueerWriters I'm behind, sorry!

I actually hit my writing goal for the month this week πŸ˜… Trying to lean in before I pick up a normal 9-5 and have less time to write. Hoping to finish the first draft of Such Sweet Sorrow by the end of the month now. I should be able to get there!

The best way to deal with imposter syndrome- do it scared anyway & let other people give you feedback. Don't ask to be torn down; constructive feedback is acknowledging the good and the bad. Don't dismiss compliments, use critique as a guide you can grow with.

#PretendPanel I'm late, sorry!

I think that external challenges are useful when it comes to prompts and sprinting for sure. It makes me actively think about things I otherwise wouldn't, and sprinting lets me actively shut out other distractions for the sake of the "deadline".
#pretendpanel, thank you for the wonderful insightful answers yesterday. I wonder...

November 22nd: Do you find external challenges useful? e.g. writeathons, sprinting, prompts etc.
