He may very well have been trying to cover his murderous ass, but any prosecutor worth their salt could easily argue he did that because he knew she was still alive and refused to render aid himself *or* call anyone else over to do so.
It's his word against the overwhelming evidence against him.

It took a long time, but if ended up getting quite a bit done. Not as much as I wanted, but I'll take it. Gonna hit it real hard this weekend while these people are (hopefully) gone.
