Because it’s restaurant related, my brain initially interpreted server as wait staff server, not computer server, and I felt bad for the poor person physically stuck in the middle before I caught on. 🤦‍♀️

I followed the pattern, which has the HSTs sewn 2 at a time. I debated doing a larger cut and 4 or 8 at a time, but the ombré goes WOF so a wider square to start wouldn’t travel across as much of the ombré pattern

I’m using the Ombré Galaxy line from V & Co. mostly in the colors the pattern called for—the only color I couldn’t find was turquoise, so I substituted arctic. Of course after I bought all the colors separately, I found a shop selling a kit 🤦‍♀️

Working on the ombré stargazer quilt. It includes 680 HSTs. 345 cut, pressed, and trimmed so far. I can’t wait to see it all come together, but I really can’t wait to be done trimming

Working on the ombré stargazer quilt. All cutting was done a few weeks ago. Finished sewing the HST pairs after work today. Next up: trimming 680 HSTs 😬 this may take a while!

I have spent my career in a traditionally male industry and had to fight for a seat at the table that my male colleagues got by showing up. Recently I found that the young female engineers who work for me are facing some of the same issues I faced when I started over 30 years ago. It made me realize that the glass ceilings are broken but the ladders to the top are still treacherous.

These words in Justice Sonia Sotomayor's dissent of the Supreme Court's verdict in Trump v. United States struck at the heart of my feelings about the majority's decision in the presidential immunity case. As of this writing, exactly one week prior to the 2024 presidential election, our democracy has never seemed so fragile. On July 4th of 2024, instead of grilling or otherwise celebrating, I started this project to capture her words in textile.
