Can epigenetic switches shape how plants “do” mycorrhiza? And can the symbiosis push back? We dig into it in our new paper: nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Epigenetic regulation of mycorrhizal symbioses: from plastic responses to transgenerational legacies
Mycorrhizal symbioses represent one of the most widespread and ecologically significant plant–microbe interactions, shaping plant nutrition, stress resilience, and ecosystem functioning. Beyond their....

Bílý strom Blanenska roste i bez fotosyntézy. Vědci zkoumají unikátní záhadu
Český vědecký tým zaujal mimořádný buk albín z Moravského krasu. Metr vysoký strom postrádá chlorofyl, a přestože nefotosyntetizuje, roste zhruba třicet let. Odborníci se zaměřili na zdroje, ze kterýc...

Does greater biodiversity always increase ecosystem functioning? I used to think so, but now I'm not so sure.
How I stopped believing in the biodiversity-ecosystem functioning consensus

Aging drives a program of DNA methylation decay in plant organs
Plants display a wide range of life spans and aging rates. Although dynamic changes to DNA methylation are a hallmark of aging in mammals, it is unclear whether similar molecular signatures reflect ra...

"In other words, European taxpayers will have spent more on the funding process than on the funding itself, and the scientific ecosystem has been drained"

The situation is rapidly becoming unsustainable: the current research funding scheme does not work.

Point of no returns: researchers are crossing a threshold in the fight for funding
With so little money to go round, the costs of competing for grants can exceed what the grants are worth. When that happens, nobody wins.

In strawberry, transgenerational effects (TGE) depend on how plants reproduce:
Clonal offspring: stronger TGE from abiotic stresses
Sexual offspring: stronger TGE from biotic interactions
Even DNA methylation inheritance follows this split.
Reproduction mode shapes what kind of memory plants pass on

🧬Does DNA methylation inheritance differ in clonal and sexual offspring? In wild strawberry, we found higher methylation inheritance in clonal offspring linked to stronger transgenerational plasticity under climate stress.
