Someone who doesn’t work for local government should do a FOI request to find out how much Councils are spending on Copilot enterprise subscriptions for staff and if any real productivity or business case was done.

Other than just listen to whatever the Microsoft rep said.

A striking thing about articles I’ve read claiming to “study the effects” of generative AI on student writing skills and consumption of information is that (1) they nearly always find the effects are negative and (2) most “conclusions” are still written assuming that we must use AI, for some reason.

Energy requirements for AI mean that the only way for the bubble not to burst would require companies to multiply their carbon footprint to an unimaginable degree. Right now, while AI is barely functional and mostly a novelty for the lazy, it requires so much energy that data centers rival cities.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.

If genAI and LLMs were so great it wouldn’t have to forced onto every single piece of software, hardware or platform.

At the very least you’d be able to disable it or opt out.

Disappointing to see @bsky.app @moderation.bsky.app @aaron.bsky.team have lied about HiveAI a year ago.

To anyone thinking about joining BlueSky, especially artists: everything you post is used to train generative Al models.
BlueSky uses Al to label content for moderation, and to do that they use a company called https://t hehive.ai/. If you look through their privacy policy, you will see that they all content sent to them to train models for all their services, which include generative Al for both text and images.
It's a built in «feature" and cannot be turned off.
