Probably won't convert this to a wrestling account for a few reasons.

Stay here for sardonic takes, self-deprecation, top-shelf music recs and absolutely unhinged political raving.

I do want to still follow wrestle friends and see/support your stuff, however!
I think about Qui Gon Jinn a lot. He's annoying because he's constantly imparting life lessons nobody asked for (or needs).

"There's always a bigger fish." Shut up, dork.

Anyway, I think a lot of leftists sound like Qui Gon to the people they speak to.
It’s true that the right is trying to kill you and the left is just annoying sometimes.

On the one hand, it doesn’t speak well of the people who can’t tell the difference.

On the other hand, it does say something about how annoying we all can be sometimes.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

Rob Reiner was a good guy. He made a lot of movies about good guys, in worlds where not everyone was good and you didn’t have to be good. He made movies about people trying. He was angry, as many hopeful people are. He knew the world could be better and he wanted it to be. His death is devastating.

It's stunning how calmly we've accepted the "papers, please" federal government and deign to consider ourselves yet still a "free society."
Armed ICE agents trapped US citizens in a restaurant and demanded their papers. Federal agents walked into East African restaurants in Cedar-Riverside, MN. They closed and blocked the doors. Then they demanded to see everyone’s papers. Every person present was a US citizen.

Laffo the gift cards I mailed our niece and nephew were missing the included gift card and not delivered (respectfully).

I handed both envelopes directly to a person at a post office, meaning there's a 98% chance USPS stole both of them.

Pathetic.

Bondi Beach shooting happening on the anniversary of Sandy Hook is not a coincidence.

There are so many shootings in this world that it's a matter of probability at this point that we must mourn multiple mass shootings on the same day.

Because our leaders do nothing about it.

One of my wrestling trainers once responded to someone who didn't like getting hit by saying "there's always time to quit and be an architect."

Glib, sure - but accurate. Fluid life lesson: recognize and accept the signs that maybe the job you're pursuing isn't the job you should be doing.
Is your presence on the job harmful to the customers, your colleagues, and the company that’s paying you? Ok. You need to find a different job. Ideally one without a lot of interpersonal interaction. Your workplace is not therapy.

Being racist, pointing to your crotch and saying "suck it" to customers should only lead to you *not* being fired if your primary employer is the World Wrestling Federation
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:
Why the Cinnabon Story Doesn’t Make Me Happy
The left should be promoting working-class solidarity, not delighting in seeing workers summarily dismissed.

If we accede to the demand that political appointees can decide what is worthwhile to study and what isn't, we've lost universities as institutions of knowledge, innovation, and progress. This is why academic freedom and tenure are so important.
This -- a model bill to effectively decimate non-STEM research by requiring 3-3 teaching loads outside of "STEM or Americanism and western civilization" -- seems...extremely bad but also quite plausible.
Proposed Model Bill Would Change College Tenure, Teaching, & Research
Three conservative groups have proposed model legislation that would dramatically change faculty tenure paths, teaching loads, research activities and hiring authority
