After the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire agreement was signed, Israel launched an intense bombing campaign on southern Lebanese towns such as Aitaroun and Bint Jbeil. Israel has since violated the ceasefire more than 4,500 times. Journalist
@loffredojeremy
was on the ground in these towns, where residents are attempting to return to their towns amid constant drone attacks, airstrikes, and sniper surveillance from nearby Israeli-occupied hilltops.

Loffredo spoke with the mayor of Aitaroun, who is struggling to oversee rebuilding efforts under ongoing Israeli attacks, and visited Lebanese homes that were used as Israeli military bases during last year’s ground invasion.

My friends, why did you stop supporting me? My life is very difficult in the tents. After losing everything, I became unable to do anything. I lost my passion for life. I need your support to survive, me and my children. You are my source of income. Anything that saves us

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that this is a particularly gross manifestation of the noble savage imaginary that fantasizes historical people as upright, talking animals when in reality they tended to take pretty damn good care of things, hygienically and otherwise.

I'm going to start calling essays like this "odes to whiteness" because the underlying premise is that they are like this because they don't anticipate any social cost to smelling bad.

This one is v. frustrating because it tries to lump in perfumes with the broader (problematic) beauty industry
I’m turning 50 next year. I rarely wear deodorant anymore. Many women I know have stopped, too. We don’t talk about it, but I catch it in the air — a faint musk of onion, goat, curry, mustard, salt, sage, fennel, ozone, and the muddy wet marrow of the earth itself. I’m kind of obsessed with this collective stink: the animal symphony of skin, of women being women, punk and unfiltered, taking up space with their scent. Raw, unapologetic BO. The more I live among it, the more I see it not as a hygiene failure but as a radical act of self-acceptance. It’s not polite, but it’s honest — and that feels hot. Hotter, even, than anything a Guess ad ever promised.

This is an exact encapsulation of why I moved to Bluesky.

No amount of handwringing in the Atlantic about how I owe some eternal Promethean suffering to the discourse is going to make me stay on a site I hate, that stopped doing anything for me professionally years ago.
Well – no. Bluesky may or may not be, as one centre-right friend who felt unwelcome put it, “self-righteous island”. But the idea that’s why we went is nonsense. That I’ve largely stopped posting on a site that’s done more to shape my career and social circle than the rest of the internet combined is less about avoiding rival opinions (I love arguing with people who are wrong!) than with the fact the site simply became unusable. It stopped generating the things (good jokes, interesting debate, clicks) I wanted; it became extremely good at generating the things (racists, pornbots, racist pornbots) I did not.

There’s this #myth that #capitalists do where they pretend that they “work for” and “earn their money” with the “sweat of their brow” because of “education”, “merit” and “hard work”, and that couldn’t be more incorrect.

It doesn't take much for the racism to come out of Democrats and they still expect the victims of their racism to vote for them. The problem isn't just Trump.ans the Republicans, the Democrats are just as much part of.the problem.

At this point I hope every single state in the United States has several airbases full of Gulf Arab militaries, and I hope they have the exact same effect on this country that they've had on West Asia. Enjoy the imperial boomerang! Literally no one on earth deserves it more

Thirdly, the largest American airbase in West Asia is located in their country. They've been attacked twice in the past year, once because of that airbase, and another time because America's pet genocidal colony wanted to assassinate people in the middle of their capital's downtown. US owes them.

First off, not a single one of the hijackers was from Qatar, so this makes you sound like one of those MAGA racists who thinks all Arabs are the exact same and are terrorists.

Secondly, they would have a lot of catching up to do to come close to what the American military has accomplished.

Landmark research proves that the US-led 'war on terror' has killed as many as 2 million people, but this is a fraction of Western responsibility for deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last two decades

Farage is a tar-stained cloud that's been hanging over the UK since 2012. Everything has gotten worse since he & his billionaire funded disaster capitalists got their way.
We're better than this.

I don’t expect human beings to smell like a rose garden every waking moment but like… if you fully reek like BO, you either have terrible hygiene or a condition.

Unscented soaps, deodorants, and detergents exist if you don’t want to deal with fragrances, but for the love of god clean yourself

The Palestinian journalist Saleh Al-Jaafarawi was killed by outlawed gangs in Gaza City.
A young man stands amid the rubble of destroyed buildings, giving a peace sign with his right hand. He wears a black T-shirt, grey trousers, and a crossbody bag. His expression is calm, with faint dust on his clothes. The ruins and twisted concrete behind him reflect the devastation of Gaza City.

I just don't want that man's reputation laundered, even by effect of benign neglect. He is responsible for *so much* of what is happening in the current situation. It was HIS administration. The buck stopped with him. He made these choices.
