Knowledge-keeping is subversive. Remembering the stories they want to rewrite, to take from schools, to make dangerous to say, keeps our ancestors’ struggles alive. Keeping those embers lit so they can be blown back to life with a breath is power. Memory is power.
When you get all excited for the free breakfast at your new hostel only it's just peanut butter and jelly or margarine on wonderbread

When you are torn horribly between misophonia and your efforts not to be a shitbag, but the extremely hungry person next to you who appears to have had a very difficult life cannot eat without punctuating every. single. last. bite and swallow with a slurp, smack, sigh, hum, AND grunt.

I'm so weirded out by people gushing over how "terrible" Trump looks. I think the word you're looking for is "old," and I don't know how to break it to you that "old" ≠ "terrible," not even for a monster like Trump. Have y'all literally never spent time around old people?

Absolutely nobody should agree to this, there is not a single legitimate reason for offering a contract like this.
New evolution in supposedly-membership-based academic/professional org being hostile to its own members:
A presenter agreement that not only has the presenter agree the org is the sole owner of all presentation materials, but that ALL COMMUNICATIONS are confidential, including the agreement.

Well first I was a webmaster because it was 2001 and you could be a webmaster at a whole ass college knowing nothing but HTML, which I taught myself because I wanted to make a website documenting all the places I illegally broke into while urban exploring....
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

Sometimes I think about the incomprehensible scale of devastation consulting companies wreak simply bcuz they're too cheap to hire advisors with in-depth knowledge & life experience, instead preferring children too green to even know not to work 100 hours a week to advise literal countries on policy

I really like a current client that I am making a website for (hint: it's my mom and her friends!), but making websites for other people also reminds me why I left a career in web design nearly two decades ago and have never once missed it.

Apparently I risk getting blocked for this, but here's your periodic reminder that book pirating sites are often run out of places like Russia because state-sponsored censorship means that for many people, libraries frequently do not, in fact, exist.

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinkin' of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

There has literally never been a universal basic income trial program that didn't deliver real and measurable results above and beyond any other form of social welfare, and every time another concludes with the same findings the powers that be go "interesting! Anyway," and pretend it wouldn't work.

Currently eavesdropping on the messiest travel conversation. Her credit card's been cut off and she can't get back to her country. She can't marry the Jewish Ukranian guy she's interested in bcuz she isn't divorced yet. Her husband may or may not be stealing her shit. Girl is having a DAY.

Every time someone tells me that our knowledge of the natural world is somehow progressively improving, I'm going to think about the fact that people think sex is icky after three hundred thousand years of homo sapiens doing it.

Imagine how amazing it would be if we did this in the US
BREAKING: Nathan Gill, the former leader of Reform UK in Wales, has been jailed or 10-and-a-half years for making pro-Russian statements in the European Parliament for cash

Omg I thought the best part was where he's actually being charged but no, it turns out he's also a former Mormon bishop

There is a fellow transguy in this hostel, and I don't want to yuck anyone's aesthetic yum or whatever, but I do feel obliged to point out that if you are 4'11" you prob can't get away with men's size 8 shoes. Your swagger will benefit if you wear something that fits a little better.

I keep wondering how long it will take the "we should always listen to science" people to ask things like "who has paid to do the science" and "who is telling us about the science" or god forbid "how do I choose between this science and that science"
This is completely disgusting. Today, the CDC updated their vaccine safety page. It now says:

“The claim "vaccines do not cause autism" is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism”.

God I love when the hostel has a real kitchen and I can actually eat like a normal person.

Every time some silicon-pilled atheist tries to tell me that science and technology are necessarily benevolent forces and anyone who doesn't embrace cutting edge technology is an untutored, superstitious luddite, I'm going to show them this until I die.
"Children’s toymaker FoloToy says it’s pulling its AI-powered teddy bear “Kumma” after a safety group found that the cuddly companion was giving wildly inappropriate and even dangerous responses, including tips on how to find and light matches, and detailed explanations about sexual kinks"

As someone new to Britain, I hate to break it to y'all but your standard of living in this place is fcking embarrassing. I would never in a million years call it a "golden ticket." Your politicians are lying to you so y'all won't notice that the ceiling for your quality of life is on the floor
No, I'd say it's racists and those pandering to them.

The actual takeaway from Amwerica’s historical experience is that we must not assume directionality in history at all. There is no arc, and there definitely is no ironclad law of the universe that says “We” can’t slide back – or slide forward into a new kind of authoritarianism.
