I make dinner & swear too much. I think that's all you need to know. 'Chocolate Cake for Imaginary Lives' published by Deixis Press is available now She/her
Working on the next dessert. It won't be fancy but I am hoping it will be reliable. Then I am going to watch "Home for the Holidays". Me and 11 other people saw it when it was in the theaters. We still exchange holiday cards.

They need to get back together… and leave us alone
So Olivia Nuzzi is clearly a piece of shit who can never work in journalism again after this.

And, also, Ryan Lizza is clearly a piece of shit who should never work in journalism again after this either.

We're all agree on that, right?

Zohran Mamdani: "We're gonna make this a city that doesn't just protect trans kids, but also celebrates and cherishes them."

like i'm not kidding there's going to be a market for stuff that is "certified real"

Once upon a time I would have done some self-destructive stuff to get a kind of dopamine hit from life. Right now? I am trying out a recipe I have never tried before. I am hoping it might make a good dessert for Thanksgiving. I tell other people not to do this but I know I can get away with it.

someone the other day tried to tell me that I'm obviously a millionaire

from a bird cartoon
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

Very helpful.
I've talked a little about In This Family before. It's a show I produce and we made a mini-sode about not going bananas when surrounded by family at the holidays with the attendant pressures, grudges, and politics.

Made a bunch of pie dough. It gets to live in the fridge until it is time to give in to fate. Cold pie dough is important. I am also making a dessert with a graham cracker/digestive biscuit base. Yay butter!
In between that I am roasting giblets/turkey neck in preparation for stock.

He goes even further, branding Leo “the woke American pope” and suggesting he’s a tool of the Antichrist.

My mom used to bring this up a lot when we were growing up. She thought antibiotics were amazing and how fewer parents lost their children.
In 1924, Calvin Coolidge's 16-yr-old son played tennis on the White House grounds w/o wearing socks. He got a blister and was dead from infection a week later.

This is unthinkable today—which is why I wrote this series. Cuz the systems that save us from this kind of fate are in urgent need of care.
For a yr, I've been working on a series for The New Atlantis about the vast systems that underlie our lives. Our ancestors built them up over decades to fend off hunger, thirst, darkness and disease. But too few of us know about them—and they're all at risk. The conclusion is now available online:

When I was in London last week I went to a show at the Mimosa House which focuses on showing feminist and queer art. (It is an unusual place as it is a non-profit art gallery) it was "Show Less" from Claire Fontaine. It was an experience. A visceral collage. You can read about it here:
A notorious nude and pages from the Guardian? Claire Fontaine’s dazzling show has got the lot!
The duo behind Claire Fontaine discuss their new exhibition, which explores everything from prison atrocities to neon profanities – and even pairs this newspaper with a Courbet masterpiece
