The opening act isn't half bad. The kind of music played in the late 90s in coffeehouse where everyone was a day away from a depressive episode. So I like it.

Me and the other middle aged people here to see The Divine Comedy.

The funny thing is, our basis for marriage in America really does come from the puritans who viewed a marriage as a civil matter and not a religious one. And so... let's stop getting our panties in a bunch if people want to marry for goods and services.

When I got married, I got some fantastic health insurance. A+++ would marry again.

I know why people get all worked up. "OMG brown people coming here and having access to things" but I am here to push back and say, "good. Do it."
gfrancie.bsky.social
I have had friends and family who made their relationship "legal" for the express purpose of having access to health insurance, and to get lower taxes. Why not get hitched for immigration reasons.

I say this as someone who married (romantically) an immigrant, if people want to make a legal contract to be bound to each other for the express purpose of getting someone a specific immigration status? Cool. Fine. If both parties consent, that should be fine.

Marriage is a funny thing. There is this expectation that it is a real romantic relationship but at heart the point of agreement in front of an official is just a legal contract. What goes on between the couple can vary and in many ways should be no one's business.

I've posted my translation of the specification for Pizza alla Romana dough on @recipe.exchange! Sorry about the badly colored food photos.

Please note that this recipe will require 48-72 hours for the dough to cold ferment in your fridge.
Pizza in teglia alla Romana
A specification, translated from Italian, for a cold fermented Roman style pizza dough. Unlike Neapolitan pizza, no agreed upon canonical recipe exists for Pizza alla Romana, so this is presented...

I am reminded of a game my 8th grade history teacher had us play that was all about colonialism. There came a point when everyone in the class became determined to grab all of the land. Then... things happened. A lot of people died.

Isn't it always this way?

The four horsemen of the apocalypse in the movie are not what I was expecting from reading the book first.

When you read this about people being *afraid to go to. church* lest they be snatched by ICE, remember that Cardinal Timothy Dolan serves on Trump's Religious Liberty Commission (www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-st...) and was honored by the Becket Fund this year (becketfund.org/media/cardin...)
The letters and video he brought to Leo detail the fear that even legal migrants are facing every day. U.S. citizens, immigrants with legal status and children have been among those detained in increasingly brazen and aggressive encounters by federal agents. In Leo’s hometown of Chicago, agents have stormed apartment complexes by helicopter as families slept, deployed chemical agents near a public school and arrested a city councilman in the hospital.

“They can’t go out. They are afraid to shop, to go to church and so they stay home,” wrote Maria in one of the letters delivered to Leo. Originally from Guatemala, she has lived in San Francisco for a quarter-century and qualified for asylum years ago, but has relatives in the U.S. who are not legal.

I'm convinced there's a fucked up libidinal component lurking under the conservative push to get rid of all modes of sexual attraction (dance, language, art, fashion, music, erudition) that aren't violent. They aren't talented enough to attract on their own, all they have is offing the competition.

I am saying once again that the Conservative attack on the Arts is because they are incredibly envious of artists who they perceive as a group that has “too much” cultural power, a type of influence Conservatives crave but will never have because they’re anti-intellectuals with no imagination.

This is pretty much it. People/communication skills are not something everyone has. Smart leadership recognizes that and gets in people who are exceptional in this regard.

A great way to turn the temp down here as @jay.bsky.team @pfrazee.com and @aaron.bsky.team want would be to stop communicating site policies and practices with individual users or on their timelines and hire a comms person who is a professional communicator to do all the front facing interaction.

I grew up enjoying menudo. Which in itself isn't that perverted because a good stew is a good stew. But I am probably a filth monster for loving the texture of honeycomb tripe so much. I grew up eating the Northern Mexican version with hominy.

oh wait... at my BIL's school (next door to our town) they had a teacher who gambled away the school band funds. (we're talking thousands) He lost it at the nearby casino.

Probably the number of teachers who were sexual predators and were quietly fired so they could easily go on and work in other schools and do the same until a large article in a regional paper came out about everything.

I know statistics are poorly understood and are misused. But facts matter

Between the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them
