It always blows my mind the progress we made with smoking. Imagine the rage of people who chain smoked every waking hour being told they have to go extended periods of time without a cigarette.
this is a good reminder of how things that are shitty but have been accepted as normal and inevitable can actually turn out to be abnormal and evitable with some science, time, education and political will

If you think more research for cannabis is going to unlock some magical, miracle use of it you're living in a fantasy and ignoring decades of pre-existing research.

CBD peaked as a third line epilepsy treatment for only severe cases with very mixed results and dronabinol is a flop failure of a med.

First year round advertising for a product the majority can only select during open enrollment is setting money on fire.

Second 60% of the market is insured via an employer, and marketing is targeted to those actual decision makers and not the employees.
Scalise: "Everybody complains, 'Why when I watch TV do I see this Gecko lizard & emu & all these animals out there selling car insurance & homeowners insurance? Why aren't they selling healthcare?' That's bc federal laws prohibit people to have choices for lower cost products for health insurance"

If this is the fear the guy is living with, do some good and push for food workers to have paid sick leave. Rare/medium beef isn't the threat, it's the line cook with a stomach bug who was told to show up or find a new job.
Bill Marler has worked on foodborne illnesses cases for decades — and he orders his steak cooked gray, never pink.

“I’ve been in too many ICUs. I’ve been to too many funerals,” Marler said. “I know too much.” https://wapo.st/48Rw01P

Trump is going to meltdown every time a beloved celebrity dies, as he realizes he won't be universally grieved and the recipient of warm/loving memorials like someone like Rob Reiner will. He's bitter and mad watching what he's never going to get.

You're not going to save the country from fascism by posting on one site versus the other. That's just incredibly stupid to believe that.
IMO it's hard to combat the dangerousness of the right by participating in a platform where they aren't present.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

There's a reason why Estratest fell out of fashion. Augmenting estrogen replacement with testosterone isn't anything new.

This article is written from the same perspective as a union. You must tolerate and accept incompetence and malevolence from some of your coworkers because if you give an inch to management when it comes to termination they will take a mile.
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:
Why the Cinnabon Story Doesn’t Make Me Happy
The left should be promoting working-class solidarity, not delighting in seeing workers summarily dismissed.

I hope his mess campaign follows this up with a text spam campaign asking for donations.

Even with the most innocent interpretation of this, kinda paints your team in a corner if your message is "don't donation texts suck"

Fun fact: Recreational use of a C2-5 isn't legal. If you get caught with Xanax you're using for funsies you're not protected.

And a plant can't adhere to the rules and regulations for manufacturing, distribution, prescribing and dispensing a controlled substance.

No one thought this through.

President Trump is preparing to order his administration to dramatically loosen restrictions on MARIJUANA.

The order would reclassify cannabis from Schedule I — the same level as heroin — to Schedule III — the same level as Tylenol and codeine and some steroids.
Trump seeks to cut restrictions on marijuana through planned order
The president is expected to attempt to classify marijuana similar to some common prescription painkillers and other drugs.

Wrong question. This product is for people terrified of being forgotten after they die and not for those still alive to find comfort.

In the ad grandma dies before or immediately after the kid is born. I never knew 3 of my grandparents for the same reason...

I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

My hellscape is management thinks AI means they don't have to worry about training staff or auditing their work, that they get to oversee a bunch of George Jetson button pushers who can't fail meaning they're just signing off on time cards and not having to deal with performance improvements plans.
This is really a huge part of why upper management is so in on AI. They think it will let them manage computers the way they currently manage the people who make the computer work. It will not.
I'm just saying I had someone tell me I had to hold the AI accountable and and no no I don't. That was not the effective way to coax it into doing the thing I wanted

I hope that I can live long enough where people yearn to return to life as it was depicted by a Twisted Tea ad.

These days you just can't get "twisty" like you could in the 2020s 😡

The Making of Risky Business
Forty-two years after the film’s release, the cast and crew recall the creation of a North Shore coming-of-age classic — and the birth of a Hollywood megastar.

Destroying the East Wing before even having designs for the new structure finalized is par for the course.

Also WaPo if the designs aren't done, and there's reporting Trump wanted an even bigger ballroom maybe don't report the cost of it as fact.

I want to live in the alternate universe where Jimmy Carter didn't sell his peanut farm and everyone's worst fears came true and we became some sort of peanutocracy. That's the best timeline.

Acetaminophen packaging is a great example of this. Look at OD rates between countries that only sell it in blister packs with limited quantities compared to the US where I can get a bottle with 500 tablets.

It's harder to OD when you have to pop out each individual tablet of a lethal dose.
This is not true. This is argument that pro-gun people use to discount red flag and waiting period laws. Ease of access and lethality (let alone cheerful instruction in the best method!) is the #1 predictor of attempts leading actual completion. The more barriers, the more people live.
I think it's fine Chat GPT is telling people how to kill themselves. They'll figure it out one way or another if they're serious.

So after nearly getting blown up, a drift at sea struggling to stay afloat their priority was to stay in the drug smuggling game?

Like they had the tenacity of Santa in a movie insisting the gifts must get delivered no matter what as to not disappoint the children on Christmas Morning.
Q: What did you see in the second strike?

Cotton: "I saw two survivors trying to flip a boat -- loaded with drugs, bound for the United States -- back over, so they could stay in the fight."
