Squaring up to the abyss until the abyss steps back.
Lately, something at/related to my job triggers headaches/migraines. Working theories: 8 hours straight at computer screen; ergonomically disastrous desks exacerbating posture issues; general "old building" allergens; constant crackle of walkie-talkies; ghosts giving me shit.

Really glad that only the kittens saw me just whack my hand on the ceiling fan while pretending to be making Spot Conlon's big entrance. It would be super embarrassing if other people knew.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Speaking of horror that has hoodoo...my debut novel is out now!

While researching local lore about a beast in the woods, HBCU grad student Zora is haunted by visions of the past as the lines between fiction and reality start to blur.

A fact about me is that every time I'm in New York City, I am thinking about NEWSIES the whole entire time. And sometimes I do a little tap dance.

On a related note, I'm in NYC and thinking about NEWSIES.

What it feels like to love a show that r/fantasy lives to hate on.

(This is about The Witcher)

I think about these images so often. The perfect marriage of marketing and art, made by people who understand both.

"algorithms tends to repeat what “works,” but art opens up what is possible.

Not everything has to be immediate or predictable.

Defend slowness when it serves a purpose, silence when it speaks, and difference when evocative.

Beauty is not just a means of escape; it is, above all, an invocation"

People who pirate books: “I just think art and literature should be FREE to everyone!”

Yes, I too would love to live in a world where art is accessible freely to all and yet artists are paid a living wage, but as this magical wagical pixie wixie land does not exist, please don’t steal from us.

Recently? DRACULA. All of a sudden, every adaptation felt shallow in comparison, because they all miss the point: a group of friends who fight a monster because they love each other.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

while I’m being cranky, access journalism needs to go. When the president does his “I’m alpha because I insulted you” thing somebody needs to fall on his sword and say “what the fuck is wrong with you, old man?” on a hot mic. the hero of the wizard of Oz is Toto.
