It doesn't matter what the rest of the sentence says, the opening 10 words in themselves are the scandal:

"President Trump on Thursday directed the Justice Department to investigate ... "

Pro tip: backtracking like this costs millions of your taxpayer dollars. And it hurts real live human beings as well. Where's the efficiency? Where are the savings? Do they ever consider consequences to you and to the budget? We are governed by sadistic, incompetent fanatics.
This follows lawsuits across the country and orders — including one in a federal court in Georgia affecting more than 100 students — finding that the moves were likely illegal.
BREAKING: In a sudden about-face, a DOJ attorney saiys ICE will be RESTORING the status of thousands of foreign students whose SEVIS records were terminated w/o notice earlier this month.

The move comes amid mounting losses in courts around the country.

Not to state the obvious, but none of them were sent to a terrorist prison in El Salvador. They all had lawyers, indictment by grand jury, a trial or a guilty plea where a judge ensured it was knowing & voluntary & access to an appeals process. In other words, all the hallmarks of due process.

I really do think we’re well beyond this point.

If you pretend that your differences with friends and coworkers and family are about “politics” when in fact they’re about right versus wrong and fascism versus the rule of law, you’re doing your country a grave disservice.

People seem to like what Senator Booker did!
Youtube comments as Cory Booker concluded. I didn’t speed this up.

Thank you Senator Booker! It's a relief to witness leaders emphasizing decency, community, fairness, health care for human beings, and morality. Instead of the outrageous chaos and destruction and hatred and greed and outright TYRANNY of the current GOP. Thank you!
I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:

Musk emulating Trump: He's saying "oh, works for Soros" because that's the fairy dust that calms anyone who might, for a moment, might notice Musk's unpopularity and then wonder if maybe it's because of things Musk does.

As of Friday, there have been 46 cases in which federal judges have blocked Trump policies.

The rulings in those cases have come from 39 different judges appointed by 5 different presidents (of both parties) to 11 different district courts across 7 different circuits.

Maybe it's not the judges?

I am BEGGING people to frame this properly. The issue here is not one colossal blunder where a reporter got info. The issue is it’s clear these people are all routinely ignoring the most absolutely basic security protocols, and WE HAVE NO IDEA what breaches this has already enabled.
I am glad that Senators are grilling DNI Gabbard and CIA Director Ratcliffe today.

Today should be the start of a 4-year drum beat on Trump's team putting US troops in jeopardy by sharing operational war plans with a reporter before undertaking the operation.

Too much is not enough.

The Chief Justice speaks out to protect democracy, at least as far as his own institution is concerned. Hopefully this signals an intent to stand for more. In the face of silence from the GOP, he has chosen to take this remarkable step of warning the president to back off.

Impeach
"I don't care what the judges think" should be grounds for impeachment for any public official, but especially for key actors in the national security system.

The Alien Enemies Act is a wartime law that was last used in WWII as part of the shameful mass internment of people with Japanese, German, and Italian ancestry.

Trump's use of this statute is a staggering abuse of power. The U.S. is not at war and immigrants are not criminals.

This was definitely not in the training

My reporter Brett Murphy obtained a remarkable directive to folks at USAID: Empty the safes with the classified and personnel records and then,

"Shred as many documents first, and reserve the burn bags for when the shredder becomes unavailable or needs a break."

&
- federal employee -- and important one at that --"leading an engineering unit inside the FAA."
