This happened to me with Lonesome Dove. After 900 pages I was really disappointed that it wasn’t MUCH longer. If you’d told me I’d react that way to a Western I’d’ve laughed at you. Larry McMurtry is one hell of a writer.

Sí, al principio era con “barco”: el límite de caracteres me impidió dar una explicación completa. Pero sí conozco a mucha gente que usa la expresión con “pulpo”, a veces completa y a veces abreviada a simplemente “aceptamos pulpo”. Hay muchas referencias por ahí, p.ej. este.

Lara's mother was a pedigree who escaped & came back pregnant. The owner couldn't sell the pups as pure breed so gave them away. Lara was very boisterous but that was mainly bc my elderly mum-in-law wasn't able to give her all the exercise she needed. With us she was a sweet little thing.
