Orioles fans: STOP THROWING OUT HATS AND SPEND SOME MONEY, DAVE, YOU RICH ASSHOLE.

Orioles: Spend money. A lot of money. Other teams are jealous. People are already talking about what a monster the AL East will be once again.

Orioles fans: Wow. What a stupid move. Too much money.

For me, the biggest takeaway from the Pete Alonso signing is that the Orioles took a swing for Kyle Schwarber, missed out and then used that money to go sign another marquee impact bat as opposed to saying “well it was Kyle or bust” and sifting through less expensive options

Getting Pete Alonso for only 5 years feels like a pretty big win for the Orioles? Cuts out most of the downside risk to signing him, and he's a pretty gigantic upgrade for their offense (and one they really did need)

And this was all so predictable that I don't even find it annoying. It's an admission that there was never really any philosophy behind the grievance, it's just grievance. They all came up in the golden age of social-driven blogging and will never escape the mentality. I love it.

It is so funny to see all the self-righteous accounts who bashed the Orioles relentlessly for years about not spending now pivot to bashing them for spending in this specific way.

The argument was always "don't overthink it, spending money is good you ghouls." You don't get to be analytical now.

Jon Meoli: The Orioles’ deal for Pete Alonso shook the winter meetings. That’s the whole point.
Jon Meoli: The Orioles finally get a win in the zero-sum game of free agency
Free agency is a zero-sum game. One team wins and all the rest lose, and the Orioles now have a win on their ledgers.

Sorry Julie, but I like the taste of salt. I spend more time in the O’s feed than anywhere else on this app, so it ain’t my fault. I see the haters as much as the lovers. Tell them to “keep our name out of their mouth” and then I won’t see it. Til then, I’m banging my shield and taking on allcomers
Stop giving these people the attention they crave! I’m only seeing this stuff because you’re reposting it. Good vibes only today! 😂

Lol. Here they go.
the orioles should definitely give a franchise record contract to a power-only first baseman on the wrong side of the aging curve. what could possibly go wrong

Starting to get PTSD from 2014 when we all thought we were getting Jon Lester at the deadline and got Andrew Miller instead, who was admittedly great, but he wasn’t Jon Lester. #LesterWatch
So the Orioles are active on everyone.

One outta three ain’t bad…
This will be the earliest the Orioles have picked in an MLB Draft since taking Jackson Holliday at No. 1 in 2022.

It’ll be their 4th time at No. 7. The previous three: LHP Chris Myers (1987), LHP Chris Smith (2001), OF Nick Markakis (2003).

If I was as bad at my job as Mike Elias is in getting top free agents to the Orioles, I would had been fired long ago.

Why I no longer get y hopes up every winter. Orioles organization only cares about making a profit and not winning.

Plus, it was gonna take a LOT to get him away from Philly as long as they made a competetive offer. He loves it there, he's talked about it openly. He found a home.

Did I want Kyle Schwarber on the Orioles? Hell yes. He's a good guy on the field and from all reports he's a real clubhouse glue guy, something we desperately need. But 5 years? That contract feels like it would be a goddamn albatross on our necks by the end. So I ain't sweating it too much.
December 9, 2025 at 5:06 PM
I knew Schwarber was going back lol. He’s most comfortable there, and you’d have had to offer him something stupid outrageous (emphasis on stupid) for him to leave. Fuck ‘im. Onward.
