How Australia's creative industries defeated the tech giants on AI copyright
In August, something remarkable happened on Melbourne talkback radio. Caller after caller phoned in—not about the housing crisis or cost of living, but about copyright law. Specifically, about whether...

You can read my books for free by requesting it for purchase from a library. The library buys it, I get royalties, and you get it for free. And future readers also get my book for free. Easy! Everyone wins!

This is a VERY long piece about solar geoengineering that starts, scientifically speaking, badly, but gets better, but still has a few issues.
The Strange and Totally Real Plan to Blot Out the Sun and Reverse Global Warming
A 25-person startup is developing technology to block the sun and turn down the planet’s thermostat. The stakes are huge — and the company and its critics say regulations need to catch up.

And yes, I know the novella market has changed and awards focus is on novellas that appear as standalone books from medium to large publishers but I (obviously) still love publishing and reading novellas as meaty offerings in magazines and anthologies and I hope enough people still do too.

Yep. This one's great. I read it recently and loved it. Highly recommend.

Nightmare #156 9/25 (3 originals) @nightmare-magazine.com

Nice mix of horror, with perhaps a focus on family, ambition, corruption, and atonement. Champ Wongsatayanont's "Autogas Ferryman" is sharp and aching, about a taxi driver who can see ghosts.

This is a banger of a story. If you enjoy Carmen Maria Machado and/or Pemi Aguda's work, you'll probably dig this.
New story day! My twisted fairy tale, “Head of the Household,” is in the winter issue of F(r)iction.

Koschei the Deathless, Slavic folklore’s baddest bad, has met his match in Ira: a mortal woman with a clever plan to take him down. At stake? Ira’s best friend’s freedom. Warning: contains gluten 🥖🩸
Head of the Household - F(r)iction

boosting this again because honestly I am proud of this near future and very political sf story, the illustration by Juan Bernabeu is exceptional, and big shout out to the editor Oliver Dougherty for having such a keen eye.
An older medic with scant resources fights to support her community as they survive life behind the company wall.

This novelette is my only near future sf story, inspired by a long-ago convo with my dad & by the activists who never give up.
