That being said, I think New Line needs to let LOTR fade from the public eye for a bit. This was their best attempt at a spin off so far and it was still only decent.

Let Jackson’s vision fade from the public consciousness so that someone else years down the line can get creative with Tolkein.

I think LOTR has a lot of potential in animation and this is a good small window into that but it’s a bit too bound to the aesthetic of the Jackson movies to go as out there with it as it could.
Not a patch on the trilogy movies but better than any of the Hobbit movies.

Gave Lord of the Rings War of the Rohirrim a watch. I thought this looked promising when it was announced then heard nothing about it since.
It’s ok. Just ok.

Pretty good animation, solid action scenes and really good voice acting.
Story and characters are kinda meh.

Oh I agree, I think stutterstepping feels really bad and I stop doing it as soon as I have a reliable source of arts recharge. But if someone is finding the combat too slow it’s what I reccomend to speed things up.

Very relieved it wasn’t necessary for 3 though.

I will say there are ways to speed up 2’s combat if you know what you’re doing (good pouch items, use fusion combos and stutterstep whenever you can). It really is fun when you know what you’re doing. It’s just not very intuitive.

1 gives you way more if its tools much early on. You can chain attack within 2 hours of gameplay. And Shulk, Reyn, Fiora and Sharla are much more mechanically distinct to start with than Rex, Nia or Tora.

I gotta say, even though XB2's UI sucks to navigate, visually I think it looks fantastic

it's very PS2 or maybe Wii era, in a very positive way

Yeah it very much seems to be the common concensus that act one was stronger than act two in the stage version. Which makes me very curious how the movie will handle it.

The biggest shame was that I watched this on a plane so I couldn’t audibly laugh my ass off at how good Ariana’s comedic timing is. She’s honestly brilliant.

This is already one of the best movie musical in years. And it really makes me hope that For Good will deliver. Act One of Wicked has long been considered the stronger part of the musical so this movie had that going for it.

Remains to be seen how they’ll handle the sequel.

And on top of all that, it doesn’t remotely feel its length despite being well over two hours long.

I’m not gonna hyperbolically claim it’s the greatest movie ever or anything, but it’s kind of miracle that it turned out as well as it did.

But most of all this movie works due to the killer performances and arrangements.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande absolutely KILL IT in every scene. And it’s always a good sign when a movie musical nails its staging with good dance choreography.

I was a bit unsure of the visuals from the initial trailers, as they didn’t make the best impression. But seeing it in person, the sets, cinematography and costumes are absolutely stunning.

I think the only visual bump is the slightly iffy CGI of the animal characters and even then it’s not too bad

Wicked feels like it shouldn’t be this good.

A mega-budget adaptation of a relatively simple musical split into two very long movies (released after several similar adaptations flopped) could have gone wrong.

This movie had a gun to its head to succeed.

And they crushed it.

Part 2 please. 🙏
