Actually I think one thing it has over MoL is that it's established fairly soon what the cause and purpose of the loops is, and that gives the protagonist a lot more of a sense of purpose than Zorian has at first (he does a lot of fairly aimless stuff)

It takes a true believer to die on a hill. We also know that there are no atheists in foxholes. It is for these reasons that atheists prefer the tundra, salt flats, and desert hardpan

sorry but there's actually no group of people for whom it is righteous that they experience infinite suffering, even billionaires and pedophiles

psychopaths are not the only interesting type of neurodivergent character, you guys! in fact, they're often the least interesting type!

you don't need to do "nobody but my family and friends has any moral value" but leftistly! you can just easily not do this!

argh
especially annoying is the genre of internet fiction that's like "smol bean uwu epic le bacon evil" where like just because the characters are quirky or say funny things or something that I'm supposed to root for them or like them
somewhat boggles me how much people seem to like reading stories that are primarily about bad people doing bad things

just watched "All Quiet on the Western Front"

certainly it's very well made and fairly horrific, tragic, etc., but, idk, it's not like I didn't already know that WW1 was horrific and tragic?

didn't personally find it very affecting

I think it's notable (and personally I find the pattern aggravating) that even though Paul didn't say "and so this is good" or "and so this is bad" here, people took solely the fact that he tried to explain something economically as an attack

maybe there's context idk anything about this guy
Sociologists are trained to see everything through the lens of power imbalances. But what if it's simply that the marginal (expected) return from outside labor is greater than the marginal cost of the foregone domestic work?
We have to talk about how this glorification of overwork is driving care downstream.

To compete, men are incentivized to dump care onto women in their families. And women in privileged positions are then incentivized to push care onto others more vulnerable than them.

an annoying aspect of the trans rights discussion in liberal circles is the people who claim (mostly rightly, even if I feel they're often hyperbolic) that trans rights is a matter of life and death, but thereby further claim that anyone who isn't a maximalist wants trans people to die

Lots of good stuff in this article, this chart might be the most useful to me personally!

Related question: what do you call someone who thinks AI will be highly capable, without designating whether they think that’s a good or bad thing? “Optimist” sounds too positive imo

that really does seem to be the most noteworthy part of the post to me! like this is straight up just what a racist character in a movie might say to indicate to the audience how racist they were!

fascinated with the idea that some people think automating miserable low-wage jobs could be a bad thing
Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:

Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.
