Actually I think one thing it has over MoL is that it's established fairly soon what the cause and purpose of the loops is, and that gives the protagonist a lot more of a sense of purpose than Zorian has at first (he does a lot of fairly aimless stuff)
Can highly recommend The Years of Apocalypse to anyone looking for the next great time loop story after Mother of Learning

certainly it's very well made and fairly horrific, tragic, etc., but, idk, it's not like I didn't already know that WW1 was horrific and tragic?

I think it's notable (and personally I find the pattern aggravating) that even though Paul didn't say "and so this is good" or "and so this is bad" here, people took solely the fact that he tried to explain something economically as an attack
