The Washington Post is shuttering its Sports section. As an employee, this is gutting. As a longtime reader, it is devastating.

So much of what I learned and admired about sports journalism came from reading The Post. Working there was a dream. Just wish it would've lasted more than 5 months.

It was such a joy to work in @postsports.bsky.social. Just an absolute gift. I was so so so lucky to have been a part of this place, and so so so lucky to work with these lovely, kind, clever, incredible people. This was the dream.

I was among the layoffs at The Washington Post today. It has been an absolute dream to be a small part of this incredible team. Covering the Caps has been an honor; being a beat writer is an all-consuming thing that I love deeply. I hope I’ll get to continue that in whatever is next

Well, turns out this was my last story for The Washington Post, 2,011 bylines later.

For nine years, it was a dream in every sense of the word, no matter how many of the company's leaders tried to make it otherwise. Thanks for being part of the ride.

I was among the many sports reporters laid off by The Washington Post today. Feeling a lot of gratitude for my time working for this paper.

Not looking back. Looking ahead to what’s next!

I've been laid off as part of The Washington Post's job cuts today. This is an incredibly sad day, not just for my colleagues and I, but for journalism as a whole.

While I'm not sure what's next, I know I'll bounce back and continue to elevate.

sports coverage is not about box scores anymore. it's about power and politics and corruption and sovereign wealth and real estate and the use of taxpayer money and the most publicized labor disputes in the country and yes, sometimes about ball go in hoop
WaPo's Matt Murray told staff the paper is shuttering sports, moving remaining staff to features, shrinking foreign coverage, restructuring metro, closing books coverage, suspending Post Reports podcast

“Whole company now waiting for a live or die email” one staffer said

Can't understate how significant the sports section was to this area and sports journalism as a whole. Fuck Jeff Bezos
The layoffs at the Washington Post have begun, with newsroom leaders telling employees its sports and books sections will be 'eliminated in current forms' and its international coverage will be downsized

As a person who's done some quick-draw training: every video I've seen of an ICE agent drawing and aiming suggests they've drilled that motion many times. It's not actually an intuitive movement, you do have to practice it
